Dan + Shay released “I Should Probably Go to Bed,” after unexpectedly finishing it during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We wrote part of this song in Los Angeles during Grammy week but finished it at my house, on my piano, kind of by accident,” Dan said. “Shay [Mooney] had come over to record vocals on another song that we had written. We took a break, went downstairs, started singing this song, and realized this song needs a big ending.
“So we really went for it,” he added. “Shay delivered one of my favorite vocal performances of all time. We’re so proud that this is our new single.”
Dan + Shay also won the trophy for Duo of the Year at the ACM Awards.
“First of all, I know I’m gonna start rambling, because these things make me so nervous … The Academy of Country Music, thank you so much for voting for us,” Dan said from stage. “This is amazing. We’re so proud to be part of the country music family. The country music fans are the best fans in the whole wide world. Thank you guys for continuing to support us and make our dreams come true. We love you.”
Dan + Shay were also nominated for Song of the Year, with that trophy going to Old Dominion for “One Man Band, Video of the Year, with that award going to Thomas Rhett for “Remember You Young,” and Music Event of the Year, with Miranda Lambert and her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour opening acts winning that trophy, for “Fooled Around and Fell in Love.”
