2020 CMA Awards to Be a Virtual Event, Allowing ‘Essential Personnel Only’

We now know that the 2020 CMA Awards will be a virtual event, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Country Music Association announced the decision after the nominees were announced.

“Capacity inside the event will be limited to essential personnel only, as outlined by local health authorities and CDC guidelines,” the statement said (via The Tennessean).

“As we navigate the coming months and look to properly honor our nominees and the community, we are committed to delivering the safest and most memorable live television experience our artists, creators and fans could ask for,” Sarah Trahern, CMA CEO, said of the decision. “We cannot wait to reveal our two incredible CMA Awards hosts in just a few weeks and we look forward to celebrating country music this November.”

Miranda Lambert heads into the CMA Awards with the most nods, with seven, including for the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year. Luke Combs follows with six nods, while Maren Morris has five, and Dan + Shay, Carly Pearce and producer Jay Joyce each have four.

“Thank you from the bottom of my honky tonk heart for all of the years of support and acceptance,” Miranda posted on social media. “I love being part of the country music family. Songs and shows are what make my world go round.”

Carly also spoke out about the industry recognition, after she was nominated for New Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year, Musical Event of the Year and Video of the Year, all for her “I Hope You’re Happy Now” collaboration with Lee Brice.

“YALL. I am ugly crying. These are the moments I’ve dreamt about since I was a little girl. Thank you
[Country Music Association] — I am humbled & I am honored.”

The CMA Awards will take place on Wednesday, November 11, at 8:00 PM ET on ABC. More information will be announced in the near future.
