Old Dominion has taken home the ACM Award for Vocal Group of the Year, a category they have won every year since 2017.
“First of all, there’s people in this room, like Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton and Randy Travis, and somehow we are included in this party, still,” lead singer Matt Ramsey said when accepting the trophy. “I don’t know how. It’s an amazing thing that we are just mentioned in the same thing. But I also know that there are people obviously hurting in the world right now, trying to figure out how to make sense of divisiveness and shootings and things like that.
“There are people that are really hurting right now,” he continued. “We are so proud to be in a room of country music fans and make music for those people, but we’re most proud to make music for people that are hurting right now. So thank you for including us in this party, and allowing us to make music for whoever needs it. We will continue to try to do so.”
Ramsey closed his speech by saying, “Thank you to my friends here for holding me up when I needed it,” as he held his cane, referring to his recent accident. Ramsey was injured in an ATV accident in March, breaking his pelvis in three places. As a result of his injuries, Old Dominion had to postpone several shows on their No Bad Vibes Tour. Fortunately, the five-man group just added 30 more dates to their tour, giving their fans plenty of opportunities to see them on the road.
Old Dominion recently dropped “I Should Have Married You.” The song, written by band members Ramsey and his fellow band members Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung and Brad Tursi along with Shane McAnally, is from their forthcoming new record, along with their current single, “Memory Lane.”
“There must be a lot of people out there that either need to hear this or need to say it,” Ramsey said of the song. “If you dance hard enough and sing loud enough, maybe the regret will go away! So crank up ‘I Should Have Married You’ … and thank you for hounding us about this one since we teased it a few months ago!”
