Megan Moroney has her first CMT Music Awards! The rising star won the for Female Breakthrough Video of the Year, for her debut single, “Tennessee Orange.”
“Thank you CMT, so much,” Moroney said. “Thank you to my fans. I wouldn’t be up here if it wasn’t for y’all. Thank you to the incredible video team at Columbia for putting this together the day after Christmas. And thank you to the director, Jason Lester, for really bringing my ideas to life in this video. And I also want to thank my parents, especially my mom, because my flight got canceled the night before, and she had to drive me through the night to Nashville. So thank you, Mom. I love you so much. Thank you, CMT.”
Moroney has already had a big 2023. She also recently made her long-awaited Grand Ole Opry debut, an event she once never thought could even be possible, even after she visited for the first time.
“I didn’t dream of being on the Opry stage because I thought I was going to grow up and be an accountant,” Moroney told CMT. “I was up in the rafters, so maybe I dreamed of having a closer seat to the stage. I didn’t know that songwriting could be a job. Where I’m from, Douglasville, Georgia, you don’t do that.”
Moroney is getting ready to release her first full-length album, Lucky, out on May 5.
“After we wrote the title track ‘Lucky,’ I knew I wanted it to be the name of my debut album,” Moroney said of the song, which she wrote with Casey Smith, Ben Williams and David “Messy” Mescon. “If you know anything about me and my story, a lot of things (both good and bad) happened to get me to where I am today, and I just feel very lucky. I couldn’t live out this dream without the support of my fans, family, and team. I can’t wait to bring these songs on the road with me this year and I hope everyone loves them as much as I do!”
