2024 CMA Awards: Brooks & Dunn Perform ‘Believe’ With Jelly Roll [WATCH]

Country music fans will be talking about Brooks & Dunn‘s performance with  Jelly Roll at the 2024 CMA Awards for a long, long time. The duo was joined by Jelly Roll to sing “Believe,” from Brooks & Dunn’s recently released REBOOT 2 album.

The song, written by Dunn and Craig Wiseman, was first released as a single in 2005, from Brooks & Dunn’s Hillbilly Deluxe album. Jelly Roll joined the duo for a new version of the track for REBOOT 2. During their performance, artists like Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town‘s Jimi Westbrook and Keith Urban, among others, are visibly emotional during the stunning performance.

When releasing REBOOT 2, Ronnie Dunn praised the production on “Believe,” which is much different than the original recording

“Dann Huff, the producer, herded most of the cats on the project,” he said. “His father, come to find out, was a prominent LA orchestral arranger. And Dann arranged the strings. It was a 60-piece symphony. They came in with a 30-group choir behind us, and we cut it as a place called Ocean Way. It’s an old church, but it’s amazing. It’s amazing. So we sang that together.”

Brooks & Dunn were the unexpected winners of the CMA Vocal Duo of the Year, a category they last won in 2006. The pair shared the category with Brothers OsborneDan + ShayMaddie & Tae and The War And Treaty.

“People used to ask us years ago, at the very beginning, “What do you want at the end of the day? What do you think is going to sustain you, or what do you want people to remember you by? ‘And it’s the music,” Dunn said backstage after their historic win. “We would always say that. And the same thing, I guess. Obviously, I guess it still holds true. Just doing this REBOOT record and watching all these 18 artists come up and do what they do, and do different interpretations of what we did before and have it actually kind of stand up, I think when I say that selfishly, it’s just a tribute to the music, not us.”

Kix Brooks credited REBOOT 2, and the new takes on their previous hits, with Brooks & Dunn’s unprecedented resurgence.

“I do feel like we have had a lot of years where we just kind of toured and had made music, and we really did,” Brooks said. “We kind of hunkered down on our REBOOT album a couple of years ago and really got back to touring seriously, and spent a lot of time putting production together and stuff. We worked hard at it. And of course with our new album out, REBOOT 2, we really remembered what it’s like to work … and what it really takes to make the wheels turn again. So to not be recognized would be understandable at this point in our career. But to be recognized tonight sounds cliché, but it feels really good.”
