Dan + Shay just won a CMT Music Award! The pair won the trophy for Duo/Group Video of the Year, for “Save Me The Trouble.” Unfortunately, Dan + Shay were unable to attend the ceremony, since they are on their Heartbreak On the Map Tour, where they accepted the honor while on the road.
“We are underneath the stage in Kansas City about to go on,” Dan Smyers said. “We just got the good news that we have won Duo/Group Video of the Year. Thank you so much for that. Thank you to the fans for voting. Fan-voted awards always mean that much more. We love you guys.”
“CMT, we love you guys,” added Shay Mooney. “Thank you so much for supporting us from the very beginning.”
“Save Me the Trouble” is the debut single from their Bigger Houses album, out in September. The song also became Dan + Shay’s 10th No. 1 hit.
“We just wanted to hop on here real quick and say that ‘Save Me The Trouble’ is officially our tenth No. 1 song at country radio as of this week,” Smyers said in a video message shared on social media. “It’s surreal to even say that out loud, and what a dream come true. Thank you so much to all the country radio stations that played the heck out of this song. To our fans, for showing love and streaming this song, and spreading the word, our co-writers, everybody in the studio who helped us bring it to life …We are truly so grateful.”
“Save Me the Trouble” might have been the first song released from Bigger Houses, but it was the final song that was written for the record.
“‘Save Me The Trouble” was the very last song that we wrote for this album,” Smyers previously told Audacy. “That’s kind of how it always goes; you turn in the whole album, you think you’re done. All the pressure’s off and you get back in the writing room, when nobody’s looking over your shoulder, expecting anything, and this song poured out of us. The same thing happened with ‘Speechless,’ on our self-titled album.”
Dan + Shay, who are touring while also currently enjoying their first season as coaches on The Voice, are celebrating their success and next chapter — a chapter that almost didn’t happen. Dan + Shay have been open about their four-month break, and their uncertainty, at least at one time, if they would ever make music together again.
“We’re in such a good place,” Mooney told their record label. “I would say that Dan and I now are genuinely in the best place that we have ever been in, which is an incredible thing to be able to say, and mean it with my whole heart. The journey that it took to get to this place, to where we have this new perspective on life and on our career in general, of being able to wake up and know that we get to do this, we don’t have to do this.
“And to feel good about moving forward and to be having just such a blast,” he continued. “Being able to get to do all this stuff, it’s special. Being able to also push a single, like ‘Bigger Houses,’ that is exactly where we’re at right now in our lives is just really special for us.”
