It was a bittersweet moment for Alan Jackson‘s family, during his recent performance in Tampa, Florida, as part of his Last Call: One More For The Road Tour, Jackson was joined by both of his grandsons, for his second-to-last show of the tour, after which Jackson will retire from life on the road.
Jackson’s oldest daughter, Mattie, shared the sweet moment on social media.
“This weekend Ali and I got to take our boys to their first [Alan Jackson] show,” Mattie writes.” There’s no telling how many shows I’ve been at in my life, but my goodness was this one special for all of us Wesley’s too young to get it, of course, but to have pictures and videos and memories of their Grandaddy perform is priceless to say the least. Very thankful for this little bitty moment!”

In 2021, Jackson revealed he had been quietly battling Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a rare degenerative nerve condition that impacts Jackson’s balance and mobility. In 2022, he began his Last Call: One More For The Road Tour, which culminates on May 17 with his final show, in Milwaukee, Wisoconsin.
“I’ve always admired my heroes like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn and Charley Pride who just played as much as they wanted to, as long as they could,” Jackson said at the time. “I’ve always thought I’d like to do that, and I’d like to as long as my health will allow. I’ll try to do as much as I can, but if I’m comin’ your way, come see me.”
When announcing his final shows, Jackson said it was a bittersweet goodbye.
“I’ve been touring for over 30 years, played everywhere, in countries and parts of the world,” Jackson said last June. “I’ve had a wonderful, wonderful career, and I’m getting into my twilight years. All my daughters are grown, and I’ve got one grandchild, and one on the way. I enjoy spending more time at home, and don’t want to be away like I had been in my younger days. And I don’t tour as much now as I did of course ten years ago, but I think it’s getting time to start thinking about hanging it up full-time.”

“Most of my fans know I have a degenerative health condition that affects my legs and arms and mobility that I got from my daddy, and it’s getting worse,” he continues. “And so, it makes me more uncomfortable on stage. I just have a hard time. I want to think about maybe calling it quits before I am unable to do the job like I want to.”
The Country Music Hall of Fame member and his wife Denise, welcomed their first grandchild, Jackson Alvie Bradshaw, into the world in December of 2022. He is the first child of their middle daughter, Ali. Last June, Jackson’s oldest daughter Mattie and her husband, Connor Smith, had their first child, son Wesley Alan.
Fans who aren’t fortunate enough to see Jackson for his final show can still see him perform. Jackson will take the stage on May 8, to perform as part of the 2025 ACM Awards. The show, which airs on May 8 on Amazon Prime, will be hosted by Reba McEntire.
