Kay previously said that “Skip This Part” was “the most Taylor Swift inspired bridge” she had ever written. The song follows her pensive “I Kinda Don’t” song, as well as “That’s What Love Is,” which was written for her wedding to her husband, Indiana Touchette.

“My now-husband and I were together for eight years prior to getting married,” Kay explained on TikTok of the inspiration behind the sweet love song. “When I started to think about songs that I wanted to dance to at our wedding, I couldn’t find anything that really summed up everything that we went through in those eight years, in order to get us to this moment of saying ‘I do.’ So I wrote one.”

Kay rose to fame by performing covers on TikTok, which earned her millions of fans, and an opening on Tim McGraw‘s McGraw Tour 2022. A career in music is all that Kay ever wanted, especially when she can pour her heart out in her owns ongs.

“The whole reason I started writing is because I was going through some really, really dark things,” Kay previously explained in a video shared on social media. “People say music is my job. But, I didn’t choose music as my job. Music chose me.”

“I’m not the kind of artist that can just riff,” she added. “But I can sit down and I can write you something that I feel, and make you feel too.”

Kay auditioned for both The Voice and American Idol, although neither of those platforms were the right one for Kay and her own unique style of music.

“My mom forced me to go for the American Idol auditions in 2011,” Kay recalled to Sounds Like Nashville. “I didn’t want to go and remember trying to make every excuse to get out of it. I ended up going, making it through three rounds [and then getting cut]. There’s nothing that lights a fire in me like being told that I can’t do something or being told ‘no.’ As soon as I got eliminated from that show, I was on this full throttle. That’s when I made the decision to not go to college and take myself off scholarships I had worked so hard for, and take a couple of years off to pursue music. It was very scary wondering if I made the right decision for the first few years but now, I definitely think I did.”
