Alexandra Kay‘s career is at an all-time high. The Illinois native just kicked off the second leg of her Backroad Therapy Tour, which included a performance at her first-ever Tortuga Music Festival, part of an all-star lineup that included Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Carly Pearce, Cole Swindell, Brett Young and more.
“My first Tortuga Music Festival,” Kay captioned the photos. “I stepped on the main stage as an independent artist playing before Shania Twain yesterday and it almost didn’t feel real. Watching the way God is working in my life right now leaves me in awe and speechless. Thank you for coming out and singing with me. I love you.”

Kay is also celebrating “Backroad Therapy” a song she first released in October, hitting six million streams, an impressive feat for any artist, let alone an independent one.
“I got to have MY BAND play on this record and it was so special,” the singer said at the time. “This song has been my baby for two years and I am overjoyed to get to share it with you! Can’t wait to hear what you think.”

The success of “Backroad Therapy” comes as Kay recently celebrated ten million streams of not one but two of her other songs, both “How Do We Go” and “Best Worst Ex.”
“I feel so incredibly grateful today,” Kay tweeted when sharing the good news. “The people in my life are a true blessing, the opportunities me and my team are being presented with are gifts from God. I’m working on not taking a single day for granted and soaking in how truly beautiful my life is.”
There was a time when all of Kay’s dreams that are now coming true seemed an impossibility. After spending part of last year opening for Tim McGraw on his McGraw Tour 2022, Kay embarked on the first leg of her headlining Backroad Therapy Tour, never imagining how quickly she would sell out venues all over the country.
“I remember so vividly the days when I would walk in to clubs and restaurants ready to play a 4 hour show.. having driven 5 hours to the venue..and I only sold 6 tickets,” Kay said in a heartfelt Facebook post late last year. “I’m telling you this because as we set out on the Backroad Therapy Tour…I admit that young, anxious girl was still living inside of me.. scared no one would show up. … Every night we would huddle up, thank the Lord for another day of doing what we love for a living.”
“And I would step out on the stage.. and my heart would burst into flames,” she continued. “Sold-out shows, hundreds of you screaming my songs word for word, note for note. I was in shock.. every night. I want you to know that most nights I held back tears, some nights I let them fall.. but every minute of this I cherished, I gave my all, I FELT with so much pride. YOU showed up for me every night, YOU stood in meet and greet line for hours, waited in the cold for hours to get up front, you showed up in my t-shirt and you screamed my lyrics.. and I will always remember that.”
