Alexandra Kay‘s “Cupid’s a Cowgirl” single is out! The song is her first release after announcing she had inked a record deal with BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville. The new partnership makes her label mates with Jelly Roll, Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Lainey Wilson and more.
“I had just as much fun writing this song with Thrasher Gruft and Cheyanna Rose Arnspiger, as I’ve had promoting it these past couple of weeks,” Kay says of the feisty track. “I’m pretty sure we disturbed every other writing room in BMG that day, as we jumped on the couches and screamed the chorus for the demo. This song represents my lover-girl era. She is fun and pink and playful and thriving. Cupid is a cowgirl, and she knows exactly what she wants.”
Kay recently revealed that she was almost done with her next album, the follow-up to her All I’ve Ever Known record, released in 2023. Although Kay hasn’t revealed the title of her forthcoming project, chances are it will be just as honest and vulnerable as her previous one.
“I’m not gonna lie, when I put this record out, I was terrified,” Kay says of All I’ve Ever Known, while on Joel Madden’s Artist Friendly podcast. “I was like, ‘There’s gonna be some backlash.’ And I think when you’re doing something that’s really gonna help people, or is going to make a difference in any way, it feels really scary. And so, I felt like how terrified I am to put this out, I really need to make sure that it goes out.”
It’s fitting that Kay is on the same record label as Jelly Roll, since he has been so instrumental in her career. Kay recently serving as the opening act on Jelly Roll’s Beautifully Broken Tour, earning high praise from the “Save Me” singer.
“Before she leaves the stage, I want to tell you a little bit about this young woman,” Jelly Roll gushed, during a show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. “This young woman in our business, she does it what we call completely independently, which means she has no record label. She has no financer. She has absolutely nothing. It’s her and her best friend, Beth. They’re doing this completely by themself. She has worked her a– off to get on this tour right here.
“She is one of the greatest singers, one of the greatest songwriters,” he continued. “My wife’s a fan, I’m a fan, our daughter’s a fan. Support independent music, but as a girl dad, more importantly, support independent women. Make some noise for Alexandra Kay.”
“Cupid’s A Cowgirl” is also the title of Kay’s headlining tour, which kicks off on February 23 in Jacksonville, Florida. Find “Cupid’s A Cowgirl” and all of Kay’s music and tour dates at AlexandraKayOfficial.com.
