Alexandra Kay Shares Details of Her Next Album: ‘I’m So Happy’

Alexandra Kay is on the cusp of an exciting new musical chapter. The singer-songwriter signed with BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville, and released her debut single, “Cupid’s a Cowgirl,” from her forthcoming new album. The record follows her vulnerable and honest All I’ve Ever Known project, although Kay admits this record will be much different than her previous album.

“I came from All I’ve Ever Known, my last album, being just very serious, and a very serious topic about my divorce, and me really digging into my emotions and growing through that,” Kay tells Country Now. “And I was like, ‘Where I’m at right now is I’m so confident, I’m so happy, and I’m just in a very pink and girly and fun place in my life.’ And so I think that was a great representation of that.”

Kay already released her debut single, “Cupid’s A Cowgirl” which is also the name of her current headlining tour. All I’ve Ever Known included songs like “I Hate Airplanes,” “Painted Him Perfect,” “She Stayed” and more. Although Kay has yet to reveal a track list or title for her next album, the Illinois native does say it will have a much different tone than All I’ve Ever Known.

“This was a very interesting process because it was the first time that I’ve written a record out of happiness and joy and independence and self-discovery,” Kay shares. “It’s been really, really cool to discover who I am as a songwriter when I’m not writing through heartache. And so I’m very excited for everybody to hear kind of the mix.

Now happily in love, with her guitarist and musical director, Rocko Beal, Kay vows that the new record will showcase how different her. life is from a few years ago.

“There are some songs that bridge that gap between All I’ve Ever Known and this new record,” Kay reveals. “There are some songs that kind of look back and say, ‘Oh, okay, now that I am in a new relationship and I’m happy and I’m secure.’ It does make me look back sometimes and say, ‘I wonder what went wrong. I wonder why we couldn’t get here’…So we’re not just going from All I’ve Ever Known being the heartbreak record straight into a happiness record. There are some songs that kind of meet you in the middle and ease you into this new era. So I’m excited for everybody to hear it.”

Kay is bringing fans with her by preparing to post vlogs to her YouTube channel in the near future. It’s just part of the way she is making sure her loyal fans are part of every aspect of her career.

“My journey – our journey together is so special to me,” Kay says, in a message to her fans that she shared on social media. “I’ve been playing for y’all well over a decade now… starting at dusty county fairs, dive bars with the stickiest floors, playing four-hour cover gigs four nights a week while bartending and hosting full-time hours. Nights, weeks, months and years passed with barely any sleep. I wouldn’t change a thing.. as a full-time artist this journey has taken US through dive bars and small clubs all around the country, to major festivals, amphitheaters and arena tours with my music idols and inspirations. For 13-plus years YOU have supported me through all the ups and downs.”

Kay is headlining her own Cupid’s A Cowgirl Tour now, but she will soon happily return to being an opener, when she joins Brad Paisley on the road. Kay is one of the opening acts on Paisley’s Truck Still Works Tour, along with Walker Hayes, Avery Anna and Mae Estes.”
