2022 was a big, big year for Alexandra Kay, but 2023 might be even bigger. The rising star, who both toured with Tim McGraw last year and made her long-awaited Grand Ole Opry debut, is spending the first part of this year at home, putting the finishing touches on her debut solo album.
“Good morning!” Kay tweeted. “It is DAY 2 of my 50 day break from touring.. I haven’t been off the road for this long since 2020. Itching to get back out there and hug you BUT really excited to be focusing on my album the next two months. See you soon.”

Kay already dropped “Skip This Part” and her current single, “Backroad Therapy,” which both will be part of her forthcoming new project.
“Those were the first two singles off my record that’s coming out at the beginning of the year. I am not gonna release any release dates or anything else on that,” Kay told Music Mayhem, while on her Backroad Therapy Tour at the end of 2022. “I’m playing another song tonight that will be on that record, and it’ll be my third single off that record, but it’ll be titled Backroad Therapy, and I’m just really excited for the world to get a full project from me.”
Kay hinted that there will be plenty more songs for her new record, songs she is working hard to make sure her fans enjoy as much as she does.
“It’s a product of the last year, but I definitely still have a few more songs before it’s done, and I just wanna make sure it’s perfect,” Kay maintained. “It’s my first full-length project, and I wanna make sure that I give my fans something that they listen to and they know it’s me as soon as it starts spinning. And so I just want them to be as proud of it as I will be.”
Kay had no idea when she started doing what became known as her Coffee Covers — singing ’90s country songs while making her coffee each morning — that she was on the cusp of watching her career explode.
“One day, I slid in and was singing a Jo Dee Messina song, and I had a big coffee, like in a mason jar, and somebody commented and said, ‘How do you make your coffee?’ Kay recalled on Cat Country 98.7 radio station. “I replied, and I made it in front of them, and I sang a song by The Chicks, and it blew up. I said, ‘Okay, maybe we’ll try this again.’ I did it the next day, and it was crazy. It was like every single video I did with it, for days, multiple times a day, it was like three million, four million, five million, six million, ten million, 12 million, 15 million [views]. It was crazy. It was nuts. It was a whirlwind, for sure. I think I gained like a million followers in a week.”
Currently, Kay’s next scheduled show is on February 17 in Florida. Find music and tour dates at AlexandraKayOfficial.com.
