Amy Grant Praises Vince Gill For Being ‘So Patient’ Amid Her Recovery

Amy Grant might not have healed as well as she did, following her bike accident, if not for her husband, Vince Gill. The 62-year-old praises Gill for his steadfastness with her, as she recovered from injuries she sustained when she hit her head after falling off her bike in July.

“He has just been so patient,” Grant tells Fox News. “Vince has a kind of way of grounding the space that we’re in even without saying a word.”

Grant was knocked unconscious for several minutes, and struggled with memory loss, among other things, in the aftermath of the accident.

“I think early on I said, ‘What if I’m different, what if I’m not the same?'” Grant recalls. “And he said, ‘Hey, every day we wake up a little different, and we love each other, and it’s good.'”

Grant recently resumed touring, after canceling her fall concert dates to continue to heal. The gospel singer launched her co-headlining  Christmas With Amy Grant & Michael W. Smith Tour in Memphis, grateful to be back in front of her fans, if not also a bit apprehensive.

“Last week was my first time back on stage, and I can’t think of a more gentle way to get back into the limelight than doing a Christmas concert with my dear friend, Michael W. Smith,” Grant says

“I was nervous that first day,” she admits. “I forgot lyrics to songs that I wrote. I’m just on a healing journey … Love and kindness is also very healing, and I’m not kidding, I feel filled up from head to toe.”

Grant planned on spending part of 2022 performing in support of the release of  Behind The Eyes (25th Anniversary Expanded Edition). While disappointed to not share that music with her fans, she feels overwhelming gratitude for the time of rest amid her recovery.

“It has been the quietest season of my life,” Grant tells The Washington Post. For someone who has spent, quite literally, her entire adult life in the spotlight, the unexpected time off in many ways was a gift.

“There are times in our lives where we can just be so busy that you’re present, but you’re also ticking off that list of things that need to be done,” Grant reflects. “Or somebody sits down for a conversation and you’re giving 100 percent attention, but you also can’t make the next thing on the calendar completely go away. That was the biggest adjustment.”

Grant and Gill just released their first joint collection of their favorite holiday songs, Christmas Traditions. The two will also spend part of this month performing for their annual with their annual Christmas at the Ryman residency, Find music and tour dates at AmyGrant.com. Grant and Gill’s Christmas Traditions is available across all streaming platforms.
