Anne Wilson teamed up with Josh Turner for “The Manger” The song is the title track of her holiday six-song EP, released in October. The pair also released a video for the inspirational song, which is out now.
“Sometimes the most simple places represent the most incredible days of our lives. The stable and the manger mark a day when our lives changed forever – the day Jesus was born,” Wilson says of the song. “I’m so honored to have the amazing Josh Turner join me in the music video for ‘The Manger,’ and I hope it brings joy to everyone who hears it this holiday season.”
The Manger also includes classic Christmas songs like “O Holy Night” and “Mary Did You Know.” The record became Wilson’s way to celebrate the holiday season with others.
“There’s something just so special about the night that Jesus was born,” Wilson said when the record was released. “He came to earth in such a humble and lowly way and His love was on display for all of us to see. I’m so grateful for this project and I hope these songs bless you this holiday season.”
The 20-year-old also released a book, My Jesus: From Heartache to Hope, chronicling her journey to becoming a Christian music singer, which began after the tragic death of her brother, Jacob, in 2017.
“It’s very bittersweet for me,” Wilson tells Everything Nash. “We wouldn’t be doing this interview right now if my brother hadn’t passed away. And so it’s very bittersweet. I would trade it all to have my brother back, but I’m also really grateful for what God’s done in my life, and just the ways He’s blessed me. So I feel like it’s like that opening the wound every time I speak about him. But honestly, the book was really healing for me to write, surprisingly. I was super nervous about it. I had to dig deep into my past, my memories with Jacob. I had to listen to old voice memos and old voicemails he had left me. I had to go through text messages between us.
“There was a lot of healing that had to take place during that time, through writing this book,” she continues. “It’s actually been a blessing and honestly, I talk about Jacob every day of my life, so I’m used to it by now. But there’s also a sweetness to it of just a reminder of what God’s doing through the loss of him. So definitely, it hurts but it’s also healing at the same time.”
Wilson has several dates on the calendar through the end of the year, including four nights with Phil Wickham on his Behold Christmas Nights Tour. Find The Manger and all of Wilson’s music and upcoming shows at AnneWilsonOfficial.com.
