Ashley McBryde has just announced two back-to-back shows at the Ryman Auditorium, in support of her new album, Lindeville, which is out now. The Arkansas native will headline her own Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville, on February 15 and 16, at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. McBryde will be joined for the show by the special guests and collaborators on Lindeville, her concept album based on a fictitious town of Lindeville, written in tribute to acclaimed songwriter Dennis Linde, who passed away in 2008.
McBryde hinted she hoped to perform Lindeville live. The record, produced by John Osborne, includes collaborations with Brothers Osborne, Brandy Clark, Aaron Raitiere, Pillbox Patti, Caylee Hammack and Benjy Davis.
“In a perfect world, it needs to be a live show,” McBryde shared with AP when the album was released. “In my heart, it would be at the Ryman, done in the style of a community theater, kind of Prairie Home Companion it. To deliver those performances in that way I think would be really beautiful and a lot of fun.”
The idea for Lindeville, not surprisingly, came from a co-write McBryde had with two other writers.
“A few years ago, Aaron Raitiere, Nicolette Hayford and I were on a write,” McBryde recalled. “We wrote this song called ‘Blackout Betty,’ and I realized we had written previous songs called ‘Shut Up Sheila’ on Never Will and ‘Livin’ Next to Leroy’ on Girl Going Nowhere. Aaron had a song called ‘Jesus, Jenny,’ and I thought, ‘We should keep these characters together and give them a place to live!’
“Not long after that, I thought, ‘What if we call it Lindeville?’ in honor of Dennis Linde,” she continued. “I want to lock six writers in a house and just spend six or seven days writing. We stayed in Tennessee in this little house close to a lake. It was eight bottles of tequila, two cartons of cigarettes, one kitchen table and six individuals out of their minds.”
The news of McBryde’s Ryman Auditorium show comes as she prepares to become the next member of the Grand Ole Opry. McBryde was surprised with the invitation by Garth Brooks, who appeared virtually from inside the circle on the Opry stage, while McBryde was on CBS Mornings.
“Grammys and being a member of the Grand Ole Opry are two of the greatest things that can happen to you as an entertainer,” McBryde said. “I’ve always said I will earn it, and this is a pretty surreal moment.”
