2024 was a big year for Blake Shelton, but 2025 might be even bigger. The 48-year-old signed a new record deal, and released a brand-new single, “Texas,” which also received the most first-week adds at radio ever in his career. The song is part of a new record, one he has been working on for a while.
“I have some things cut, but I’m gonna keep recording until they tell me time’s up,” Shelton tells Taste of Country.
Shelton admits that much of his next record depends on the success of “Texas,” which is already in the Top 25.
“The truth is they’re probably gonna wait and see what happens with this song,” Shelton explains. “Does it go fast? Does it go slow? Then they’ll probably start the clock.”
Shelton has no idea when his next project will be released, but he does say fans will likely know very soon.
“I bet you next month [January], I’ll know when the album date is gonna be,” he hints.
Shelton has released dozens of singles since “Austin,” his first single, came out in 2001. But with “Texas,” the Grand Ole Opry member acknowledges there is something unique and different about the song, marking a career first for him.
“This particular song I’m really fired up about,” Shelton tells Entertainment Tonight. “It’s way different than anything I’ve ever done before. It’s your typical story, a guy got dumped by the girl country song. But musically, it’s way different. And anytime I get to show up and be in a music video and just get to wear what I’d probably just be wearing today anyway, I’m always excited about that.”
If not for Post Malone, Shelton might not be working on new music at all. It was the rapper-turned-country-singer who inspired Shelton to release more music, after Post Malone invited Shelton to sing with him on “Pour Me a Drink,” from his F-1 Trillion album.
“I really credit Post Malone for this new energy that I have because I was kind of just complacent and not in any hurry,” Shelton tells People. “Then that kid came along and asked me to sing on his song with him. It took off and was a big hit this summer, and it reminded me like, ‘Hey, get off your a–! This may be your last chance to really take a big swing at this thing.’ So here I am.”
Besides working on his own album, Shelton is also helping honor one of his biggest musical idols in early 2025. The 48-year-old is working on a documentary about Keith Whitley, who passed away in 1989.
In addition to a new album coming in 2025, Shelton also recently announced that he is part of a new reality TV talent show, The Road, airing next year on CBS. He will also spend part of 2025 on tour. The Oklahoma native will kick off his Friends & Heroes Tour 2025 on February 27 in Lexington, Kentucky, joined by Trace Adkins, plus Craig Morgan, Deana Carter and Emily Ann Roberts.
