Blake Shelton is returning to TV. The former coach on The Voice announces he is teaming up with Taylor Sheridan, best known for his Yellowstone franchise, for a new show, The Road. Set to air on CBS in the fall of 2025, the new show will feature a still-to-be-named superstar, with aspiring singers joining the headliner on tour, serving as the opening act in venues all over the country. The singers will compete to win over local fanbases to be able to perform in the city and remain on the tour.
Shelton and Sheridan will serve as executive producers of The Road, along with Lee Metzger and David Glasser.
“I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator, Lee, on The Road,” Shelton says. “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”
“There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture,” adds Sheridan. “No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road – literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”
Shelton spent 23 seasons on The Voice, announcing in 2022 that he was exiting the show.
“I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from The Voice after next season,” Shelton said at the time. “This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me. It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best. It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week.
“I’ve made lifelong bonds with Carson [Daly] and every single one [of] my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife Gwen Stefani!” he continued. “I have to give a huge shoutout to the singers – the ‘Voices,’ who come on this stage season after season and amaze us with their talent and a special thanks to those who chose me to be their coach.”
The Grand Ole Opry member later revealed he left The Voice to be able to focus on his three stepsons, whom he gained when he married Gwen Stefani in 2021.
“If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I’m missing out on some more important things in life,” Shelton later told People. “For now, that’s our kids. This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again. Even though I’m a stepparent, I take that job very seriously. The kids see me as a very important person in their life. [When they ask], ‘Why isn’t Blake here?’ I take that stuff to heart. I’ve made plenty of money, but you can’t buy time back. I don’t want any regrets.”
In addition to the launch of The Road next year, Shelton will also spend part of 2025 on tour. The Oklahoma native will kick off his Friends & Heroes Tour 2025 on February 27 in Lexington, Kentucky, joined by Trace Adkins, plus Craig Morgan, Deana Carter and Emily Ann Roberts.
“The Friends & Heroes Tour is one of my favorite tours because as a fan, I can’t think of a cooler concert to see,” Shelton says. “I get spoiled every night seeing these icons come out and do four or five of the biggest hits of their storied careers. And then get introduced to new talent like Emily Ann. I can’t wait.”
Shelton just signed a new record deal, with BBR Music Group, BMG Nashville. Find music and tour dates at BlakeShelton.com.
