Blake Shelton might be bringing his famous mullet back, at least for his upcoming new single. The Oklahoma native announces the release of “No Body,” out on Friday, August 19, with the artwork showing Shelton in his trademark hairstyle.
“I get excited and feel like a kid every time we release new music,” Shelton says of the song, written by Chris Tompkins, Rodney Clawson and Josh Kear. “But this song in particular takes me back to the ‘90s when I was in high school and first moved to Nashville, because it feels like what the music sounded like at that time.”
“No Body” seems to be from a forthcoming new album, after the 2021 release of his Body Language Deluxe album. The 46-year-old’s latest single was “Come Back As A Country Boy,” written by HARDY, Jordan Schmidt and Josh Thompson.
“I think this song is an anthem for everyday hardworking country people out there,” Shelton says of “Come Back As A Country Boy.” “We have so much pride in who we are and what we do that, if we ever died and got the chance to live life over again, we probably wouldn’t do it if we couldn’t be country.”
Shelton will return for his 22nd season of The Voice next month. joined once again by his wife, Gwen Stefani,, as a coach, along with John Legend and Camila Cabello.
“The best part about working with my wife is that I never have to be apart from her,” Shelton tells NBC Insider, adding that it also increases his chances of winning. “And she also happens to be one of the least competitive people I know. Being on a competition show with your wife, who is also not competitive, is the greatest situation you can be in.”
In addition to new music and his time on The Voice, Shelton is also developing a new TV show, Barmageddon, along with The Voice host, Carson Daly. According to Deadline, Daly will serve as the resident bartender, while Shelton performs with Ole Red’s house band for a live music sing-along. WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella will host the show, which will feature Shelton’s celebrity friends competing against each other in several classic bar games with a unique twist, including Air Cannon Cornhole, Keg Curling, Drunken Axe Hole, Sharts (“Shelton Darts”) and more.
Two celebrities will compete against each other, with the goal of winning a prize for a viral internet sensation each one personally chose to support, who will be at Ole Red. The loser has the chance to spin the Wheel of Redemption, described as a “risky move with hilarious consequences.”
“Nashville is known for great music and hospitality, which makes it the perfect setting,” Shelton says of the new show. “I’m excited about Barmageddon and can’t wait for friends, old and new, to join my buddy Carson and me for some drinks, music and high-spirited fun at Ole Red.”
No word yet when Barmageddon will premiere. Season 22 of The Voice will premiere on Monday, September 19. Shelton will return to the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday, September 10. Keep track of tour and music updates at BlakeShelton.com.
