Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are back at radio with “Happy Anywhere.” The song follows their multi-week, platinum-selling, No. 1 hit, “Nobody But You,” which might seem to indicate there could soon be an entire duets album from the pair. Unfortunately, the Oklahoma native says that isn’t likely.
“I don’t think so,” Blake told Bobby Bones while on his morning Bobby Bones Show. “It’s hard for me, honestly. The more time goes by, I’m starting to wonder, why do an album at all? I’m having a blast putting out just singles. People just stream music right now, or get it on iTunes or whatever. I would rather just record a bunch of music and release them all as singles. They don’t have to be radio-promoted singles, but just get music out there as soon as you can.
“So I don’t think so,” he added. “Maybe by the end of 10 or 20 years here, we’ll have enough duets together that we could put them all together and release them as some kind of hits package.”
Blake didn’t intend to release a duet with Gwen right after “Nobody But You,” but felt the timing couldn’t be more perfect for “Happy Anywhere.”
“Even though Gwen and I just had a single out we decided that, under the circumstances, this year… man, there’s never been a better time for ‘Happy Anywhere,’” Blake said about releasing the song. “We’ve all been in quarantine and lockdown, and hopefully we’ve been doing that with somebody that we really love and enjoy being around. That’s what happened with Gwen and me this summer – and this entire year.”
One week after it was released, “Happy Anywhere” hit No. 1 on iTunes all-genre chart, and was the most-added song at country radio.
“As I’ve said, ‘Happy Anywhere’ feels like the perfect song for right now,” Blake said of the accomplishment. “I’m proud to see that fans feel the same way about it that Gwen and I do. Thanks everyone for listening to the song, watching the video and coming to the drive-in. Most importantly, thanks for letting me do what I love the most – sing country music.”
Blake and Gwen are both supposed to return for Season 19 of The Voice, although Blake seems to think they will not be able to return on time.
“We’re supposed to start filming our blind auditions for season 19 in about two weeks, I think,” Blake told SiriusXM‘s Storme Warren. “But the waves of bad news that keep coming out of California, especially southern California — it’s on my calendar still, but every day seems like a new world we wake up in. I hope we still get it in and I know they created a safe situation for us but we will see what happens.”
