Only a few weeks after Brandon Davis released his fun new track, “Wheels On The Truck,” which featured his own family in the video, the singer has another song on the way. Davis announced, via a video shared on social media, that his new song, “I Can Wait,” will be out on October 7.
“This is an exciting moment for me,” Davis gushed. “I get to share something with you all that is incredible. It’s out of this world. And I’ve been waiting so long to be able to put this out here … I’ve been writing a lot of songs over the past couple of years, and here recently, in the past six to eight months, it has been an incredible amount of songs that have so much meaning to me, so many stories that I want to be able to tell.
“And you all have seen some of the stories we’ve already told through ‘Destiny,’ and through ‘Step by Step,’ and even ‘Hearts Don’t Rust,” he continued. “This way that we’re trying to connect with you through these stories and songs, and we’ve got a big announcement today that is a continuation of such an amazing journey that I am so, so thankful that we have had.”
Davis, joined with enthusiasm by his wife Destiny, went on to announce that his new song is also one of his favorites that he has ever written, a bold statement for the prolific songwriter.
“Today, we are officially putting out a pre-save link for my favorite song, and I believe my wife’s favorite song that we have released in a while, and it is called ‘I Can Wait,'” Davis revealed. “This is a brand-new song. If you’ve come to a show it’s very possible that you’ve heard this song played live and in person. But today, for the first time, exclusively for y’all, we are putting this link live.”
“I Can Wait” was inspired by a conversation Davis was having with his own mother, talking about the videos for another one of his songs.
“I was sitting in a room on a Zoom call with my buddies Josh Bricker and Josh Byrd, and we were actually just getting ready to drop the ‘Destiny’ music video,” Davis recalled. “Earlier in the day, I had called my mom and said, ‘Hey, we’re gonna be debuting the music video, we’re going to be putting it live, and I want you to be able to go listen to it, or watch it.'”
It was when Davis’ mother said she wanted to wait, and that she knew it would be worth the wait, that he had a moment of clarity.
“That was so special to me,” Davis remembered. “And when we dig a little deeper into what this song’s about, it talks about how I feel like a lot of my life I have spent rushing from one point to the next, from A to B, trying to hurry up and get things done and accomplished. But there’s a lot of firsts and a lot of things you get to experience along the way that if you rush through them and you hurry past them, once they’re gone, they’re just gone.
“You can’t go back and do these first things over again,” he continued. “There are experiences in life that you only get to live once. So instead of rushing through it, and going as fast as of a pace as you can go …instead of rushing through all these moments, kick back and enjoy yourself. Enjoy life, because you only get one of them, and it’s worth waiting on some of these things.”
Davis also shared that one of his dreams, one that has yet to come to fruition, is to be invited to perform on the Grand Ole Opry. That desire is reflected in “I Can Wait.” Watch Davis’ full video here, and listen to a clip at the 8:10 mark.
