Brett Young’s daughter, Presley, has already made her musical debut! The baby’s heartbeat appears in Brett’s new song, “Lady,” written as a tribute to both his little girl, and his wife, Taylor.
“She was a little musician before she knew it,” Brett told People, adding that Taylor was just two months pregnant when he recorded the heartbeat.
Brett wrote “Lady” with Jon Nite and Ross Copperman, shortly before Presley’s arrival in October, but it likely won’t be the last song he writes about his family.
“‘Lady’ is easily one of the most special songs I’ve ever written,” Brett acknowledged. “I always knew I would want to write songs for my children, but didn’t realize the inspiration would come so quickly before my daughter was even born. It’s a message to Presley about her mom and it became a pretty obvious choice for my first single in a new chapter of music. It’s so meaningful to Taylor and I, and I hope it resonates in a similar way for anyone who listens.”
Brett has made his living by releasing personal and sentimental songs, including “In Case You Didn’t Know” and his recent No. 1 hit, “Catch,” but he admitted that “Lady” was almost too personal for him to share.
“It’s okay for the world to know I’m a softie,” Brett said. “It’s difficult to sing on stage. I have to almost go blank on purpose and not think about the words, because if I do, it’s hard to get through.”
In fact, Brett almost didn’t release “Lady,” until his producer, Dann Huff, convinced him otherwise.
“I thought it was just a gift for my wife and daughter,” Brett said. “[But] maybe people need to hear this.”
