Brooks & Dunn‘s “Play Something Country” collaboration with Lainey Wilson is out. The song is part of the duo’s upcoming REBOOT 2 album, out on November 15.
“Lainey was one of the first artists to get in the studio with us for this project,” Kix Brooks says. “She came head-to-toe in flames, bell-bottoms and all, and added that Louisiana swagger like only she could. This was a fun one!”
No one was more eager than Wilson to be in the studio with Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, to add her own spin on one of their most-beloved hits.
“I don’t know anybody in this town, in this generation of country music, who could say that these guys are not influences on what they do,” Wilson shares, “They were the soundtrack to my childhood, so I was excited to make some magic with them.”
Wilson went to the studio with Brooks & Dunn, and legendary producer Dann Huff to record “Play Something Country” together.
“I have been looking forward to this day for so long,” Wilson says in a behind-the-scenes video, filmed the day they recorded the song. “These dudes right here, they are the soundtrack to my childhood. I was excited to get in here and make some magic with them.”
“The country ZZ Top sound that we decided to do, it came from Dann,” she continued. “Even though they said, ‘Take the reins, do whatever you want to, I feel like this is a classic. Of course, we rocked it up and we put some juice on it.”
Wilson has had many pinch-me moments throughout her career, including Grammy wins, an induction into the Grand Ole Opry, a series of No. 1 singles and more. But nothing will top her singing with Brooks & Dunn, for her or her fmaily.
“This is just a big opportunity,” Wilson says. “This is something to call home about. When I get to call my daddy and say I’m doing this with y’all, he’s like, ‘Oh, you’re really doing something now.”
