Brooks & Dunn‘s Ronnie Dunn has earned several unexpected weeks off. The singer-songwriter shares on social media that he injured himself in a skiing accident, requiring him to take time off of the road.
Dunn at least managed to keep his sense of humor while recovering from his injury, sharing the news in a comical way on social media.
“Changing these lyrics from ‘I don’t dance with anybody but you’ to ‘I probably shouldn’t ski anymore at 72’….? 8 week vacation!!”

Dunn and his duo partner, Kix Brooks, have much to celebrate heading into the Christmas season. The pair just won the CMA Award for Vocal Duo of the Year, for the first time in 18 years. Brooks & Dunn credit their win at least in part to their REBOOT 2 album, out now, which features collaborations with artists like Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Morgan Wallen, Mitchell Tenpenny, HARDY, Riley Green and more.
“I do feel like we have had a lot of years where we just kind of toured and had made music, and we really did,” Brooks said backstage after their historic win. “We kind of hunkered down on our REBOOT album a couple of years ago and really got back to touring seriously, and spent a lot of time putting production together and stuff. We worked hard at it. And of course with our new album out, REBOOT 2, we really remembered what it’s like to work … and what it really takes to make the wheels turn again. So to not be recognized would be understandable at this point in our career. But to be recognized tonight sounds cliché, but it feels really good.”
Fans might have been surprised by Brooks & Dunn’s unexpected win, but for Dunn, it’s a testament to how they have conducted themselves since their debut Brand New Man album came out in 1991.
“It’s just back to the back to the music,” Dunn explained. “This business is going to go through stages, and is going to go through cycles. A lot of people are going to like it. Some people, they’re not going to like it. Just stay true to what you do. If you’re in the music business, if you’re in it to make music, make your music. And let’s just see what happens.”
When REBOOT 2 was released, Brooks reflected on how the landscape of country music, and how music is shared, has shifted in the last three decades. While some denounce artists like Post Malone and Beyoncé releasing country music, both Brooks and Dunn only see the positive side.
“Fans change, because fans get older and young fans come in,” Brooks told American Songwriter. “That’s always been the way that this wheel turns. And, fans ultimately have always said this about people who are throwing rocks at some artist that is not classic, hasn’t been here forever, artists today that may have their start on TikTok or whatever. It’s like, ‘Stop throwing rocks. We have millions of fans out there. And they’re going to decide.’”
Dunn should be fully recovered by the time Brooks & Dunn embark on their Neon Moon Tour in 2025, which begins in March. Find all of their music and upcoming shows at Brooks-Dunn.com.
