New music is here from Cam! The singer just dropped “Redwood Tree.” Written by Cam, Tyler Johnson and Anders Mouridsen, the song is from a forthcoming new album, her first since Untamed was released in 2015.
“I grew up with a redwood tree in my backyard as my climbing tree. I spent so many afternoons up there as a kid looking out and dreaming about the future,” the California native said in a statement. “It feels like I’ve lived 5 lifetimes since then – I’ve done more than I can even remember, but still part of me wishes I could’ve stayed put, and to have that time at home. But you can’t be in two places at once and you couldn’t have known then what you know now. It’s a song about time, and whatever way you spend it still feels like just a blink to a redwood tree.”
Cam has released several songs since Untamed, including the poignant “Diane” and personal “Till There’s Nothing Left.” While it’s unclear which songs will appear on her next project, Cam promises the record will be different than her first.
“My voice has gotten so strong,” Cam told Rolling Stone. “That has always been the element I want to be the most emotive, and the reason you get drawn in and believe me, and believe that it’s your story too, and get to connect with it.”
Cam and her husband, Adam Weaver, welcomed their first child, a daughter named Lucy, into the world in December. The birth, which resulted in an unexpected C-section, and journey into parenthood brought Cam and Adam closer than ever.
“You really find out how strong your partnership is if you’re raising a kid with a partner and I lucked out,” Cam told PopCulture.com. “I picked a really good one. He particularly made me food, changed diapers, handed me a baby to breastfeed while I couldn’t even get out of bed myself. So we made it through and now we’re to the cute parts where she laughs and smiles.”
