After Dan + Shay teased a collaboration with Carrie Underwood, the American Idol alum has confirmed the news. Dan + Shay previously posted a photo of the two of them with Underwood, prompting followers to question what the picture meant, before Underwood revealed on social media that she was teaming up with the duo for a song, “Only Us,” for the upcoming Dear Evan Hansen movie. The song will be out this Friday, September 3.
“I’m so excited to share that I teamed up with [Dan + Shay] to record a very special song for the [Dear Evan Hansen] Original Motion Picture Soundtrack! ‘Only Us’ is coming your way this Friday!” Underwood tweeted.

Other artists contributing to the soundtrack include Sam Smith with Summer Walker, SZA, Finneas, and Tori Kelly, The “Only Us” collaboration is Underwood’s second one to be released in 2021. She is currently in the Top 15 at radio, with her “If I Didn’t Love You” duet with Jason Aldean.
“We had a short list of people to send it to, and Carrie was at the top of that list,” Aldean recalls to iHeartCountry. “We reached out to her. A lot of times, you never know what other artists have going on at the time. They may not have a window to release a song like this. Luckily for us, Carrie had a window. She liked the song…. When she came in and put her vocal on the song, it took it to a new level, and turned it into this big, huge, power ballad. It was something that we definitely needed for the record too.”
Dan + Shay also just released new music as well, with their fourth studio album, Good Things, out last month.
“It feels nice,” Mooney told Everything Nash and other outlets during a virtual media event. “It was very freeing. We had a lot of fun with making this record because there were a lot of songs that we were writing that we didn’t think about, ‘OK, is this going to be crazy to sing live?’ Maybe it’s because we’ve been off the road for a little while and we didn’t remember how ridiculously hard it is to do a 90-minute set while you’re singing these very high songs. But this is a lot of fun to make. And [Smyers] pushed me in the studio a lot this time. Not [because] I didn’t want to do it. It was just like we really went for it on this record.”
The soundtrack for Dear Evan Hansen will be out on September 24.
