The top six finalists for Video of the Year at the 2023 CMT Music Awards have been announced! The nominees for the night’s highest honor include Blake Shelton‘s, “No Body,” Carrie Underwood ‘s “Hate My Heart,” Cody Johnson, “Human,” HARDY and Lainey Wilson‘s “wait in the truck,” Kane Brown and Katelyn Brown, “Thank God” and Morgan Wallen‘s “You Proof.”
Underwood holds the record for the artist with the most wins at the CMT Music Awards, with 25. She has won Video of the Year for the past four years. Shelton last won in the category in 2018, for “I’ll Name the Dogs.” She is nominated for both Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year, for “Ghost Story.”
While Underwood wasn’t necessarily thinking about continuing her winning streak at the CMT Music Awards, she did know she wanted the “Hate My Heart” video to tell the story of the song in a way that was uplifting and encouraging.
“‘Hate My Heart’ is a song about a break-up,” Underwood told E! News. “It’s kind of like you’re stuck. You’re just trying to get over this person. It’s like, you don’t really want to be back with them, but you’re having a hard time moving forward and moving on and putting it behind you. The video, we wanted to be helping these girls do that. It’s been a lot of fun to shoot, and hopefully everybody can see little bits of themselves in each of the characters in the video.”
Wilson led the list of CMT Music Awards with four nods, followed by Jelly Roll, Johnson and Brown, who had three each. Performers for the ceremony include Jelly Roll, Tyler Hubbard, The Black Crowes with Darius Rucker, and Wynonna Judd and Ashley McBryde, Shelton, Keith Urban, Carly Pearce and Johnson. Kelsea Ballerini and Brown, who are co-hosting the ceremony, will also perform, with Brown singing with Katelyn.
The CMT Music Awards will air live from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas on Sunday, April 2. The show will air on CBS. The CMT Music Awards are fan-voted. Voting is open now at Vote.CMT.com.
