Carrie Underwood has a lot to be thankful for this year. The 41-year-old acknowledges she has a lengthy list of things to express gratitude for this Thanksgiving, but at the top of her list is her husband, Mike Fisher, and sons Isaiah, nine, and Jacob, five.
“I am grateful for so many things this Thanksgiving,” Underwood tells her record label. “I think the thing I’m most grateful for, though, is family. I mean, that’s what it’s all about, and that’s what this life is all about. I’m blessed to have two incredible boys that I get to take care of and that love on me daily, and they’re just giant blessings in my life, and of course, my extended family, as well. That’s what this time of year’s all about – getting together and just realizing how blessed we all are.”
Underwood doesn’t reveal where her family of four will celebrate Thanksgiving this year, but she does say that, due to her busy career, she often doesn’t get to spend the holiday with as much of her family as she would like.
“We don’t have too many set-in-stone Thanksgiving traditions,” the singer explains. “I find myself a lot of times working on or around Thanksgiving or unable to get home or whatever. We try to be together, but sometimes that just doesn’t work out. But I think it’s just about, we eat. I eat a lot every year on Thanksgiving.
“I never skip THAT tradition,” she adds with a laugh. “But that’s the gist of it, and I’m kind of lucky. I get two Thanksgivings, because I also get to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving with my husband’s family, so if I don’t hit one, I’ll definitely be able to get the other one.”
The Oklahoma native recently announced the end of her REFLECTION: The Las Vegas Residency, which she began in 2021, and was extended multiple times due to fan demand.
“I feel like there was so much love and work and excitement that was poured into this show,” Underwood tells ABC. “For me, I feel this will live in my mind as one of the greatest shows we’ve ever put together, if not the greatest show we’ve put together,”
The 41-year-old recently announced her own Carrie Underwood: Reflection TV special, airing in January on Hulu. Underwood decided to do the TV special for her family, but also for her two young boys.
“I feel like it would’ve been a real shame if it just lived on in people’s memories,” Underwood says. “People can re-live those moments and get to watch them and experience them and maybe see things they missed when they came out.”
“I love that my kids are gonna get to watch it someday when they’re a little bit older and be like, ‘Oh my gosh, mom. I can’t believe you did that,’” she adds. “I just love that it’s gonna get to live on.”
Underwood is returning to American Idol for the upcoming season, this time as a judge, 20 years after she won in 2005. She also has a Top 25 hit at radio with Cody Johnson on “I’m Gonna Love You,” and is reportedly working on another album.
