Carrie Underwood Is ‘Still in Disbelief’ Over Papa Roach Collaboration

Carrie Underwood is in awe of her recent collaboration. The mother of two joined Papa Roach to perform their “Leave A Light On” duet, together on stage in Las Vegas.

“Still in disbelief over this one,” Underwood reveals on social media. “On Saturday, after my Reflection show, we changed my clothes, dried my hair and headed over to catch the Papa Roach show down the street. Not only did I get to perform ‘Leave A Light On’ with them, but I got called BACK out to do ‘Last Resort,’ because, why not?!

“Oh, and they told me that our song went GOLD, which is amazing because it’s raising money for a great cause!” she continues. “These guys are the real deal. 25 years of melting faces and I know they’ve got more work to do! What a great show!”

Underwood and Papa Roach released “Leave A Light On” last summer. All of the proceeds go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), which will receive royalties generated from both artists from the song, in perpetuity.

“It’s a cause that’s very near and dear to Papa Roach and to Jacoby Shaddix,  who is the main vocalist,” Underwood told Good Morning America. “When they asked me to come sing on the song, I loved the song, and I loved their cause. They work a lot with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and they want to help people. They use their life story.”

Underwood was a big fan of the rock band when they asked her to join them on the powerful song.

“I’m such a huge fan of Jacoby and Papa Roach and was honored to be invited to record ‘Leave A Light On’ with them,” Underwood said. “It’s a beautiful song and the message behind it and the band’s mission to shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness has never been more important.”

Papa Roach was already also a fan of Underwood, and are thrilled that she was willing to share her talent with the world on the important song.

“We were humbled that Carrie was open to our mission, and hearing the power of Carrie’s voice in that recording session we were blown away,” says Papa Roach lead singer, Jacoby Shaddix. “Not only is her vocal ability unequaled, but the impact of her voice brings a new meaning to our cause and will help people all over the globe. It’s an honor to have a ‘Rock Star’ bring life to this track with us.”

For Shaddix, the message of “Leave A Light On” is personal, and one he feels compelled to share.

“Suicide is at a peak,” Shaddix told Audacy. “It’s a leading cause of death in America. And we wanna use our platform to bring hope. I think it’s important to speak a message of hope to the people that —I’m here for you, I got your back. That’s what the message of the song is, and that’s what the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is all about. Their campaign is called Talk Away The Dark, and our song is called ‘Leave a Light On’. So it just fit like a glove.”

Underwood recently had a No. 1 hit with “I’m Gonna Love You,” her duet with Cody Johnson. She is also part of the new song, “If It Was Up to Me” with Christian artist Ben Fuller, out on Friday, February 11. Download or stream “Leave A Light On” at PapaRoach.com.
