Carrie Underwood is once again the voice of Sunday Night Football, airing on NBC, even if this year it looks a little bit different. The 37-year-old recorded a new version of “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” in a Nashville studio, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Still, Carrie was thrilled to once again be able to participate, marking her eighth consecutive year to partner with NBC for the performance.

“It’s so great,” Carrie gushed on the Today Show. “I grew up, obviously just watching football from Oklahoma. That’s just what we do. So to be able to share and have a little part in the festivities, it’s so much fun. This year we obviously couldn’t be in stadiums and around people, but thankfully we did such a great job of working with what we had to work with, and putting it together.

“Everybody stepped up to the plate, and the game must go on,” she added. “It’s always fun to do it, but this year especially, you feel like you really accomplished something.”

Carrie’s My Gift Christmas album came out on Friday, September 25. The 12-track record includes a collaboration with her own five-year-old son, Isaiah, on “Little Drummer Boy.”

“I was in the booth with him, and trying to get him to access all his little five-year-old emotions, which he can totally do on his own,” Carrie recalled, adding that she might have been a bit of a “stage mom” while he was with her in the studio. “When I heard the song back with his sweet little voice on it, I was laughing and crying. Just so many emotions. I’m so proud of him.”

The title of the record came from the storyline of “Little Drummer Boy,” a story of a little boy whose only gift he could afford to give the king was his talent.

“The gift of music is such a blessing in my life, and I really want to give that gift back to Jesus,” Carrie said. “It just seemed to make sense to me. Isaiah did such a great job on that song. I was the proudest mom in the world.”
