Carrie Underwood is less than two weeks away from her The Denim & Rhinestones Tour, kicking off on October 15 in Greenville, South Carolina. It’s been three years since Underwood was last on the road, with her 2019 Cry Pretty Tour, and Underwood hints her new tour will be unlike anything her fans have seen before.
“There’s a lot of things we’re doing that we haven’t done before,” Underwood tells Audacy’s Katie & Company. “I feel like we’re in such a good creative space… I feel like everybody has really just upped their game. We’ve been rehearsing lately and kind of adding new flavors to songs we’ve been playing for a really long time. Just kind of keeping things fresh and exciting.”
The American Idol alum’s tour might not begin until mid-October, but she has been spending months getting ready for the cross-country trek.
“There’s so much work that goes into putting on a tour,” Underwood tells UMG Nashville. “Obviously, putting the stage design, set design, all the production, lighting, all of that stuff. There’s tons of things to look through, videos to look through, and approving things and making sure each song will be looking like how they sound.”
“And then for me, I want to make sure I’m at the top of my game, so definitely want to up the cardio and workouts and things like that, wardrobe, all of those things,” she adds. “There’s a lot that goes into putting it all together, and we are well on our way.”
Underwood may be doing new things on The Denim & Rhinestones Tour, but she’s already sealed her fate as one of country music’s biggest superstars. The 39-year-old is nominated for three CMA Awards, including the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year.
“Obviously [I’m] super excited. knew that the nominations were coming out the next morning, but by the time the next morning got there I totally forgot and was going about my day,” Underwood remembers. “Then I looked at my phone and I had text messages and I was like, ‘Oh! Nice!’ It was kind of nice to not be anticipating [because] then I would have been nervous.”
Jimmie Allen will serve as the opening act on the Denim & Rhinestones Tour. Find all of Underwood’s upcoming shows by visiting her website.
Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning will serve as hosts of the 2022 CMA Awards. The 2022 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 9, at 8:00 PM ET on ABC.
