Chevel Shepherd‘s new song, “Lookin’ for Loretta” is out now. The song honors the late Loretta Lynn, released only a few months after Lynn passed away.

Shepherd teased “Lookin’ for Loretta” at the end of 2022, saying it would soon be available, after quickly becoming a fan favorite.
“After a long wait I’m finally excited to announce that my song ‘Lookin’ for Loretta’ is going to be released February 17th,” Shepherd said at the time. “Thank you to everybody who made this possible I couldn’t have done it without you. This song is so special to me and I’m excited to share it with all of you.”
The Season 15 winner of The Voice previously said it was Lynn who became one of her biggest influences, as she dreamed of a career in country music, even from a young age.
“I love Loretta,” Shepherd told Everything Nash. “She’s definitely one of my favorites. I look up to her as a musician and as a person. She’s always stayed true to herself, and never strayed away from that. And then I look up to Tanya Tucker, Gretchen Wilson, The Chicks. I look up to all of them. There are a lot of musical influences on my record that stem from them, because that’s the music that I grew up listening to, but I always make it my own. But my influence, my biggest one would have to be Loretta. And I also love Dolly [Parton] as well.”
Shepherd released her Everybody’s Got a Story EP in March of 2021, the beginning of a long and promising career for Shepherd, as both a singer and a songwriter.
“I really want to start songwriting,” Shepherd told Everything Nash. “I have tried. I’ve written some stuff. I think it’s just the learning curve … I feel like I haven’t lived a lot of life yet, but I just have to sit down and really try. I mean, I have some things that I could write about. The next album though, some of the stuff I want to be written by me.”
