Chris Stapleton can add his name to the list of artists who have performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. The 44-year-old performed a bluesy version of the patriotic tune at Super Bowl LVII, accompanying himself on guitar, and earning rave reviews immediately following his performance.
Other musical performers at Super Bowl LVII included Babyface, who sang “America the Beautiful,” and Sheryl Lee Ralph, who performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Following Stapleton’s performance, a group of female pilots marked the first time the flyover was made up of all women.

Several celebrities were in attendance at the Super Bowl, including fellow singer John Fogerty, who praised Stapleton’s performance on social media. Fogerty also revealed that he would release his own version of “Joy Of My Life,” which he wrote and was recorded by Stapleton. Stapleton’s version is on his 2020 Starting Over album.
“Look who I ran into before his performance at the Super Bowl,” Fogerty captioned the photos of the two of them together. “What an amazing talent. I am thrilled and honored he recorded a song I wrote, ‘Joy of My Life.’ I got to tell him what that meant to me. Valentine’s Day I will be releasing a new arrangement of my song.”

Other country artists who have performed at former Super Bowls include Charley Pride in 1974, Garth Brooks in 1993, Faith Hill in 2000, The Chicks in 2003, Carrie Underwood in 2010, Luke Bryan in 2017, Eric Church (with Jazmine Sullivan) in 2021, and Mickey Guyton, who performed it last year.
Stapleton has a packed 20203 tour schedule. The father of five just added several dates to his All-American Road Show Tour. He will also join George Strait for Strait’s stadium tour, with Little Big Town serving as the opening act.
“I love doing these shows with George about as much as I like doing anything,” Stapleton says. “There’s nothing to compare it to. So many of his songs are in the ethos of what country music is. Playing these shows together is a great experience all the way around.”
Stapleton will also perform at this year’s RodeaoHouston. All of Stapleton’s upcoming shows can be found at ChrisStapleton.com.
