Chris Young Celebrates His 14th No. 1 Hit With ‘Young Love & Saturday Nights’

Chris Young is back at the top, for the 14th time in his career. The 39-year-old is celebrating his 14th No. 1 single with “Young Love & Saturday Nights,” the title track of his latest album. The song was written by  Ashley Gorley, Jesse Frasure, Josh Thompson, with David Bowie also credited as a writer, thanks to a guitar lick used in the song that is a take on one used in Bowie’s iconic 1974 hit, “Rebel Rebel.”

Not only is “Young Love & Saturday Nights” Young’s return to the top of the charts, but it also marks Bowie’s first No. 1 in country music.

“Every number one is special, but this one – my 14th – really hits differently,” Young says. “To be part of Bowie finding success in country music eight years after his passing is truly an honor and it’s been wild to watch audiences at my live shows reacting to this song that has its roots in a rock staple from 50 years ago. Just wow.”

“Young Love & Saturday Nights” is one of only three songs on his latest, 18-track project that he didn’t write, although he admits he wishes he had been included when the song came to life.

“I just fell in love with the song,” Young recently shared with Everything Nash and other outlets. “I was sitting in a room at Sony and they played me a whole bunch of stuff throughout the day, just did an old-school style pitch meeting. A bunch of different publishers came in, and they played me this one, and I was like, first of all, I’m mad at the other guys that are listed alongside David Bowie, because I’ve written with all of them. Why couldn’t they just give me a phone call?

“But two, it was cool because I got a chance to produce this with two of the guys that I’ve worked with for quite a while, Chris DeStefano and Corey Crowder,” he continues. “All three of us were producers on this …It’s a really special song, and just having it sung back at me — you always get that feeling when you can start to feel the crowd want to sing along to something. This one is that kind of song, and it’s really special.”

In addition to his successful music career, the Grand Ole Opry member recently revealed he is working on another creative project, this one not at all part of the country music industry.

“There’s a project people don’t know about that we haven’t announced,” Young just hinted on Country Countdown USA. “I don’t wanna say it yet. But I may or may not be writing a book that has nothing to do with the music business. It is a fiction novel. Something that I’ve not attempted before, but always had it in the back of my mind.”
