Chris Young is giving an update on his new album. After releasing “‘Til The Last One Dies,” Young says the song is one of only a few that he didn’t write, but he was happy to include on his new record.
“It’s not the only one that’s going to be on the project that I wasn’t a writer on,” Young tells Country 102.5. “I’ve had songs before that have been singles that I wasn’t a writer on. I obviously sang and produced this one. But I found it. Someone played it for me right after these guys wrote it, and I was just like, ‘Oh God. That’s really, really good. I gotta cut that.”
Young didn’t even consider not cutting “‘Til The Last One Dies,” even though he didn’t write it, especially since it was something fans hadn’t heard from him in a long, long time.
“I just think it’s an absolutely beautiful song,” Young says of “‘Til The Last One Dies,” written by Ben Hayslip, Seth Mosley, and Jordan Walker. “And I think for me, it’s been a while since I’ve put out a true ballad love song. I went back and looked through the last several singles, and had a lot of success with. They’re all tempo, or even if they were a ballad, they were a really serious, sad topic. This was something I hadn’t given everybody in a while, and I love the song.”
Young is pleasantly surprised at how quickly things came together for him, after leaving RCA Records and signing with Black River Entertainment.
“I figured I was going to have a bunch of time off at the end of last year, and the beginning of this year,” Young says with a laugh. “That went right out the window. Everybody was immediately all in. We were taking meetings. I was holed up in the studio making this new album. There’s going to be a new album out at some point this year, so just constantly tracking stuff and getting ready for this song to come out. Filming stuff and doing photos, on top of playing shows … It’s just been full speed ahead, and it’s been amazing to see the support I’ve gotten from everybody over at Black River. It’s just really, really awesome.”
“‘Til The Last One Dies” was the most added at radio when it was released. While Young doesn’t have a release date for his new album, he does say things are moving forward to get it out as soon as possible.
“There are still a couple more that I’m going to track,” reveals the singer. “But we’ve already got the days set in stone and I’ve got a pretty good idea of the last several that are going on there with the ones that I’ve already cut, mixed and mastered. We’re in a good position.”
Young hasn’t shared any more songs on the record. But he does say “‘Til The Last One Dies” was the perfect way to introduce his next record.
“I just thought the message on this one was so perfect,” Young tells Audacy of the song. “I went to every single one of my friends, male, female, whatever, that were married or in a relationship, and they were all just blown away by this song, so I was like, ‘Okay, we gotta go with this one first. It’s just too perfect.’”
