Chris Young will join Kane Brown as the opening act for one of the dates on Brown’s massive 2024 In The Air Tour, on August 16 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington. For a man who can easily sell out large venues on his own, Young says there is nowhere he would rather be than supporting his good friend on the road.
“It’s Kane’s tour and I could not be looking forward to one tour stop more than I am for that one, because I’ve known that guy entirely too long,” Young told Everything Nash. “I love him like a brother, and that’s why I said yes to it. I was like, ‘That’s gonna be so cool to be able to open for him after he opened for me multiple times.’ I’m super looking forward to it.”
Young and Brown are not only friends, they are former collaborators. The two had a hit single with “Famous Friends” in 2021, the title track of Young’s last album.
“This song is a piece of me, and it means a lot because it’s honest and it’s real-life,” Young said of their duet. “Plus, Kane and I are good friends, and being able to have that history together, it adds a whole other level to the track. ‘Famous Friends’ is one of my favorite songs – it’s personal and it’s a lot of fun, so I’m glad it’s getting out there for people to hear it.”
Young is a much leaner, and healthier, version of himself, on and off stage. The 38-year-old just shed more than 60 pounds, thanks to diet, exercise and overall healthier choices.
“It was just time,” Young explained. “It was a health thing. My cholesterol was really high. It’s like when you go to your doctor and you’re at the point where your doctor, who never says anything to you, ever, which is mine, is like, ‘You’re probably a little unhealthy right now.’ I was like, ‘Oh no, really?’ First time in my life. I looked at some photos and I was like, ‘I gotta change some stuff up. It’s time.’
“So I did that and it’s just made everything else easier and more fun,” he continued. “I enjoy being in the gym, and I like to cook, so I just changed what I ate. I’m just not eating a pizza at midnight, that’s all. It’s not a big deal.”
Young’s latest single, “Young Love and Saturday Nights” is at radio now. The song is from his next album, which he says is already completed.
