Chris Young Performs in Front of Record-Breaking Crowd in Nashville [WATCH]

Chris Young‘s performance on Independence Day in Nashville, headlining the Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th celebration, made history. The Tennessee native performed in front of 355,000 people, making it the largest crowd ever to attend the event.

Young, who was joined by Mitchell Tenpenny to sing their No. 1 hit, “At The End Of A Bar,” shared clips of the monumental occasion on social media.

“Hope everyone had a fun and safe 4th of July weekend! Shoutout to 355k people that showed up to Nashville,” Young captioned the video.

Young’s latest Young Love & Saturday Nights album was released in March. The record, Young’s ninth, was in many ways a new era for Young, who poured everything he had into his new project.

“So this really and truly is a new chapter for me professionally, physically, mentally,” the 39-year-old says. “All of the things that I’ve sort of put work into this year are going to reap benefits for years to come, but especially right now for me. It just allows me to lock it in even more, whether it’s live shows, whether it’s the studio.

“I feel like I’m sort of in a new season of life,” he adds. “Every album’s a snapshot of where you are in that particular moment, so I think this one’s going to be really, really important for me.”

Young has plenty of concert dates on the calendar over the next several weeks, playing fairs and festivals, and opening for Kane Brown for one show on Brown’s In The Air Tour. Whether it’s an outdoor arena or a massive indoor venue, Young’s first priority whenever he takes the stage is always his fans.

“Another artist one time told me, ‘Somewhere in that crowd there’s a mom and a dad, and they paid for a babysitter to sit at home with their kid,’” Young tells Music Connection. “‘And they barely had the money to do it. They saved up just enough money to buy a ticket to your show. And they’re so excited to be here. This is their date night. It’s their only night out this month. So don’t mess it up.’ It’s layered because it was definitely some advice I needed, and one I think a lot of people could use.”

Young currently has a Top 10 hit with the title track of his new album. The song was written by Ashley Gorley, Jesse Frasure and Josh Thompson, with the late rocker David Bowie also credited as a writer, It’s one of a few that Young didn’t write for his record, but knew he wanted to include on the album.

“‘Young Love & Saturday Nights’ is a song that just kind of fell in my lap, so to speak,” Young shares with his record label. “We were having some meetings, people were cycling in and out of the Sony building playing songs for the record. Obviously, I write most of my stuff, but not all. You look at the history of my music, you’ll find a lot of songs that have gone No. 1, and been huge hits for me that I didn’t write as well as the ones I did. And this is one that I definitely wish I had written. I just fell in love with it from first listen; obviously a summer vibe behind this one.”
