Chris Young Reveals ‘Very, Very Boring’ Way He Shed Over 60 Pounds

Chris Young recently shared his weight-loss journey, shedding more than 60 pounds, and getting much more fit and muscular, but there isn’t a secret to his success, except hard work. The 38-year-old reveals it took a lot of tenacity and discipline to get where he is today, and he isn’t done yet.

“It’s really boring. It is very, very boring,” Young tells CMT of how he achieved such a dramatic weight loss, adding that he changed his diet, made going to the gym a priority, and hired a trainer who works with professional football players.

“I go heavy protein caloric deficit, so I don’t have to not eat sandwiches, which is one of my favorite things in the world,” Young reveals.

“I am very happy about the fact that I’ve lost that weight, but it was not something that was like a, ‘Hey, here’s the easy catchall fix all,” he adds. “The really funny thing is everybody’s been like, ‘Oh, are you taking medication or a shot?’ I’m like, ‘No, not doing any of that. I’m just being really boring and going to the gym.'”

This year has been dedicated to a lot of work on myself. Music wise AND in the gym. Still not done, but down 60 pounds so yeah… Gonna leave this here #cheers #fitnessmotivation

Young also listed a wide variety of exercises he does, including squats, lunges, glute bridges and more, to build muscle while getting leaner. While Young wanted to be healthier physically, he also found he can sing better than ever, thanks to his new lifestyle, something that comes in handy as he readies his next record

“It is probably the best I’ve felt vocally in a very long time,” Young admits. “It’s really easy to get lost in trying to tell people that you think this is one of the best records you’ve ever made because that’s what everybody says. But I think this record is really and truly one of the best ones I’ve made very long time.”

Young’s current single, “Young Love & Saturday Nights,” was recently the most-added at country radio. The song, from his next project, is a great way for the Tennessee native to introduce his new album.

“I feel like everybody’s happy,” Young says of the song, which features the late David Bowie as a co-writer. “The imaging is there. The music is there. All the pieces are in place for this to be possibly one of the biggest things I’ve ever done. So now, it’s just trying to capitalize on it.”

Young hasn’t revealed many details about his new set of tunes, which also includes “Looking for You,” but he does reveal he is a co-producer on the project, alongside Corey Crowder and Chris DeStefano.

“I want to cut the best songs,” Young says. “I want to write the best songs. I want to produce the best songs. Being able to make all of that happen, especially right now, where everything moves and changes so fast. At the end of the day, the most important thing is, ‘Do you have great music? That will never change.’ And I feel like this is a great album.”
