Chris Young will have a new song out soon, and it’s a sweet love song. The 39-year-old will release “‘Til The Last One Dies” on April 4. The song, written by Ben Hayslip, Seth Mosley and Jordan Walker, is from Young’s next record, his first on Black River Entertainment.
“Songs like this don’t come along every day, and I haven’t released a ‘wedding love song’ in a while,” shares Young. “Those songs are a core part of who I am as an artist. I’ve been doing this for a long time, and yet this feels like a new chapter. It’s invigorating for me as a creator.”
In December, Young announced he had left his longtime label, RCA Nashville, where he had been since winning Season 4 of Nashville Star in 2006, and signed with Black River Entertainment.
“I’m so excited to announce my new partnership with Black River Entertainment!” Young said at the time. “RCA Nashville was an amazing home for me since 2006 when Joe Galante signed me to work with the Sony team, but it is time for my next chapter. I couldn’t be more excited about the new music that’s on the way or my new home. Black River is an amazing company, and they have truly impressed upon me how much they believe in me and my future. I can’t wait to continue to add to my legacy with them as a Black River Entertainment artist.”
The Tennessee native admits he was ready for a change, but had no idea he would find the perfect label home with Black River Entertainment.
“I had the chance to be a free agent. I felt sort of like an athlete a little bit,” Young told Billboard.. “I was prepared to take all these [label] meetings, and I went in and [Black River Records] were the first meeting. By the end of that meeting, I told them, ‘I want to be here.’”
Young Love & Saturday Nights came out in March of 2024, but the Grand Ole Opry member is already working on his next project, one that we now know will include “‘Til The Last One Dies.”
“[Black River] had done their research and they were like, ‘We want you to be part of this group. We’re ready to go to work immediately.’ And I gave them a dropbox with 20 songs in it,” Young revealed.
Young is no stranger to having hit records. He recently celebrated his 14th No. 1 hit, with “Young Love & Saturday Nights,” the title track of his latest project.
“Every number one is special, but this one – my 14th – really hits differently,” Young said when the song landed at the top of the charts.. “To be part of [David] Bowie finding success in country music eight years after his passing is truly an honor and it’s been wild to watch audiences at my live shows reacting to this song that has its roots in a rock staple from 50 years ago. Just wow.”
