CMA Country Christmas airs tonight, December 8, on ABC. The show, hosted for the second year in a row by Carly Pearce, includes performances by Scotty McCreery, Maren Morris, Old Dominion, Dan + Shay and more. The show, filmed at The Steel Mill in Nashville, features stunning holiday decorations by Balsam Hill.
In addition to hosting, Pearce will perform two songs by herself, “Here Comes Santa Claus” and “Man With The Bag.” She will also join Molly Tuttle as part of a bluegrass medley, featuring “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” “Let It Snow,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “Christmas Time’s A-Comin’.”
“When I got the call that I got to come back and host, it was a no-brainer,” Pearce says. “Hosting is something that’s really special to me, and something that I really want to continue to do, so I feel very lucky.”
Tuttle is also eager to perform, for the first time, on CMA Country Christmas, especially since she gets to perform with Pearce.
“I’m looking forward to playing these amazing Christmas songs with Carly Pearce,” Tuttle says. “I feel like the theme of our segment is almost like Christmas morning, and you’re getting up and having a jam session. I grew up in a musical family, so it feels king of like the Christmases we used to have when I was a kid.”
Steven Curtis Chapman will perform “Precious Promise,” for his CMA Country Christmas debut.
“It’s my first time at CMA Country Christmas, “Chapman says. “I am a big fan, watched it over the years. I love Christmas music shows, Christmas shows, live. I was a fan since I was a little kid, watching the old Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell and Mac Davis, and Andy Williams always had a great Christmas special. I just love those … So there’s just something very, very special about the music of Christmas. That’s part of what makes Christmas Christmas is the music.”
Dan + Shay, who just celebrated their tenth anniversary of being friends, will perform their original songs, “Officially Christmas” and “Holiday Party.”
“CMA Country Christmas is one of our favorite things to do every year and this year we get to do two songs which is amazing,” Smyers says. “Two original songs, we’re doing ‘Officially Christmas’ and ‘Holiday Party.’ ‘Holiday Party’ is a brand-new song, we’ve never performed it anywhere, so hopefully, we remember the words.
“But if we don’t, no one knows the song yet, so it’s a good place to debut it,” he quips. “Christmas is always an exciting time for us. We love Christmas music and to get invited here with so many amazing artists at CMA Country Christmas, it’s a blast. Hopefully, we get invited back next year.”
McCreery will mark his return to CMA Country Christmas after a long absence by performing “Holly Jolly Christmas.”
“It’s my first time performing on CMA Country Christmas in like a decade, which is nuts,” he says. ” had so much fun when we got to do it before. I sing Christmas music all year long. Ask my band, ask my family. So to get to do this with all the artists on the big stage is pretty cool.”
Morris will perform “Merry Christmas Baby,” one of her favorite holiday songs.
“I am most looking forward to seeing the set and the band, and I am also really excited to get to be singing ‘Merry Christmas Baby’ because it’s one of my favorite Christmas songs,” Morris says. “So many people have covered it over the last hundred years, so I’m kind of combining a bunch of them into mine. I’m looking forward to it.”
Old Dominion will perform “What Christmas Means To Me,” a departure from the country music they are used to playing.
“This show is special in a way that it is always the first thing that gets me excited for actual Christmas,” the group says. “When I walk in and see the set I’m like… It’s very warm and inviting and we get to play something we don’t normally play,”
The War And Treaty, husband and wife duo made up of Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter, will make their CMA Country Christmas debut by performing “O Holy Night.”
“This is our first time performing on Country Christmas and we’re performing ‘O’ Holy Night,'” Tanya shares. “I can’t even talk about how excited we are. We watched it last year sitting at home in our house and it was just a dream. We were like ‘Wow, could we do this?'”
“I’m most excited about my velvet jacket,” her husband jokes.
Pearce hints that the night will give fans a glimpse into not only her life, but the lives of the other performers as well.
“Audiences can expect to see some of country music’s best. I think we’ve put together such a great lineup. I feel like fans are going to get to know me a little better, and a little bit more of my story, and my Christmas traditions, and I think that it’s really going to get people in the holiday spirit.”
CMA Country Christmas will premiere at 8:00 PM ET on ABC on December 8. It will stream on Hulu and Disney+ beginning on December 9.
