The 2020 CMT Music Awards was just one of many events over the next several weeks that had to be canceled or postponed due to coronavirus, but fans will thankfully still be able to get their country music fix. CMT just announced a two-hour show, CMT Celebrates Our Heroes: An Artists of the Year Special, premiering on Wednesday, June 3, at 8:00 PM ET on CMT.
According to a statement, the show will feature “one-of-a-kind tributes, call-outs and performances from country music’s biggest stars.” Artists scheduled to appear, all from their own homes and virtually produced by CMT, include Brothers Osborne, Florida Georgia Line, Kelsea Ballerini, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert and Thomas Rhett. More artists are expected to be announced shortly.
“The ‘CMT Artists of the Year’ franchise has always been reflective of the important issues of our time, and this year, we all felt it necessary to shift our focus to honoring the real heroes during these unprecedented times,” said Leslie Fram, Senior Vice President of Music & Talent, CMT.
“From the first responders and healthcare workers to members of the military, our educators, food industry workers and so many more, the country music community will come together to honor these heroic men and women,” she continued. “The evening of unity will feature incredible performances, uplifting tributes and a salute to those risking their lives on the frontlines of this crisis.”
In addition to the artist performances, CMT also plans to tell stories of the unsung heroes during the coronavirus pandemic, including (but not limited to): healthcare workers, first responders, those serving in the military, and others whose jobs are making a difference.
