Cody Johnson and gospel singer CeCe Winans have a new duet, out now. The two have a new version of “Come Jesus Come,” a song Winans previously recorded. “Come Jesus Come” is on Winans’ 2024 More Than This album

Winans spoke out about their duet on social media.

“I’m so excited to share something truly special with you… the duet version of ‘Come Jesus Come’ with Cody Johnson is out now!” Winans writes. “It was such a joy meeting Cody last year at American Idol, and I’m honored to join voices with him on this powerful song. Whether you’re from the country world or the gospel world, or anywhere in between, this song is for you. Why? Because Jesus loves you. He died for all of us, and His love has no limits. So wherever you are in life, I pray this song brings you hope, peace, and a reminder that He’s coming back soon.”

Johsnon shared a video of him meeting Winans for the first time, revealing he quickly went from country music superstar to big fan.

“I am such a huge fan … I grew up listening to Bill Gaither, and all the people,” Johnson says, clearly in awe of meeting Winans in person. “When I saw your name out there, I was like, ‘I wanna walk in there so bad.’ I knew Wynonna. I’ve met Wynonna. I busted up in her green room … But when I saw this name I was kind of intimidated. I don’t get that way. But I want to let you know, what a beautiful voice. You’ve had such a huge impact on me and the way I sing, especially when it comes to gospel and things like that.”

“Come Jesus Come” was written and first recorded by Stephen McWhirter

“It was the beginning of the pandemic, and I was home alone, like everybody else,” McWhirter recalls. “I was sitting at the piano, and I had my Bible open. I was just trying to worship the Lord and mean it.”

Johnson and Winans may not have met before, but they have a connection. Johnson recently had a No. 1 hit with “I’m Gonna Love You” with Carrie Underwood. Winans also recorded with Underwood, on “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” for Underwood’s 2021 My Savior album. Interestingly, Underwood is also part of a faith-based song right now. She joins Ben Fuller on “If It Was Up To Me.”

Winans returned to American Idol earlier this month for their three-hour Songs of Faith episode. Winans sang “Come Jeus Come” with Roman Collins. Watch their performance here.
