Cody Johnson fans are in luck. The Texan has added ten more shows to his ongoing Leather Tour, including one at the iconic Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, which seats more than 40,000 people.
“My guys and I have spent 17 years on the road,” Johnson reflects. “And it’s not lost on any of us how fortunate we are to get to do this for a living and now at this level. I truly believe God put me on this earth to help make country music sound like country music again. Can’t wait to see y’all on Nov. 9th at Globe Life Field.”
To celebrate the announcement, the father of two will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners game, taking place on April 23 at Globe Life Field.
“We are extremely excited for Cody Johnson to bring the ‘Leather Tour’ to Globe Life Field this fall,” says Sean Decker, President of REV Entertainment. “Cody is a star in the country music industry and we look forward to hosting a packed house for what is sure to be a memorable night in Arlington on November 9.”
Johnson just celebrated another No. 1 hit, this one with “The Painter.” The song is the debut single from his Leather album, released last November. Johnson released the song in honor of his wife, Brandi, who has been with him since the very beginning of his career.
“There’s always been start agains,’ Johnson explained to Apple Music Country’s Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen. “In my music career, you get to the point where you’re like, ‘I don’t know if I can do this anymore. I’ve been traveling up and down the roads making $100 a night in a van and can’t afford to put gas in it.’ And she’s going, ‘Yes, you can. You left your steady job for a reason and yes, you can do it.’ And so it’s like you start again.”
Johnson is back at radio with “Dirt Cheap,” which is already in the Top 30.
“That’s one of my favorites,” Johnson told Yahoo. “The first time I heard it I cried because I’m a cattle rancher. I breed roping horses and we work on a ranch in Texas and it is a lot. I’ve made a joke ever since we bought this ranch. I told my wife, ‘I hope you love this house because I’m never moving. I’ve already got the oak tree picked out where I’m going to be buried.’
“Being on that cattle ranch and having those places you hold dearly, to have the memories of your kids and your horses and dogs and your wife, that’s a big deal,” he continued. “So I really related to that song. I took that song to the first five toughest guys I know and played it for them, and they all cried, so I said, “Well we’ve got a winner here.”
Johnson is nominated for five ACM Awards, including Male Artist of the Year, and the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year. The ACM Awards will air live on Thursday, May 16, from the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The ceremony will stream live exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Tickets for the general public are available now, via SeatGeek. More information is available at ACMCountry.com.
Other newly-announced Leather Tour stops include Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Kansas City, Missouri; Charlotte, North Carolina and others. See a complete list of all of Johnson’s concert dates below. Find more information, and all of Johnson’s music and upcoming shows, at CodyJohnsonMusic.com.
