Fresh off appearing on Season 21 of American Idol, Colin Stough isn’t wasting any time performing his hit single, “I Still Talk to Jesus.” The 18-year-old performed the song on Live With Kelly and Mark, which also marked his first time in New York City.

When Stough released “I Still Talk to Jesus,” ahead of the American Idol finale, Stough shared why he felt the song was an important one to share with the world.

“The main point of the song is to not give up,” Stough said of the song. “Especially in this generation, and in this world, it is really hard to keep going. It’s hard to find people that you can talk to. This song is a reminder that you will always have that one source that is always with you.”

 

Stough also spoke out about the song on social media, and his appreciation for being able to release his own music.

“Being able to record my own song, it makes me feel really great,” Stough said. “It’s definitely a phase in life I never thought I’d be able to see or be able to get to, and now we’re here. To be here and get to be in this environment, the hospitality is really amazing. It makes me feel like you’re supposed to be here, and you can really see that deep down there are just people here that care about you. They’re not just here doing their job or anything like that.”

Stough is from the very, very small town of Gattman, Mississippi, which means heading to the Big Apple was a change for him, and a big one.

“Well there’s one caution light in Gattman,” he said with a laugh. “It’s crazy. It’s definitely a big change.”

Host Kelly Ripa also teased Stough on his similarities in appearance to Brad Pitt, and resemblance Stough didn’t refute.

“There were some people behind the scenes at Idol, and they were like, ‘You know, if music doesn’t work out, just go be a stunt double,” he joked.

Since he was little, Stough dreamed of a career in music, a dream that once seemed out of reach. But now, after his time on American Idol, the rising star is rapidly crossing items off of his bucket list as he makes his dreams come true.

“Being in the music industry is something I’ve always dreamed about,” Stough told Hollywood Life. “I’ve kind of got a list. I’ve got goals for my life like everybody else does, and I want to keep checking them off.”
