Collin Raye Reveals New Album, ‘Scars,’ Includes a Duet With Miranda Lambert (Exclusive)

There’s a new album coming from Collin Raye, which includes a duet with Miranda Lambert! The 59-year-old reveals his next record, Scars, one of his most personal collections of songs to date, includes a collaboration with the superstar.

“I just finished an album called Scars,” Collin told Everything Nash. “I did it with a producer named David Ferguson for Audium Records, and I think it’s the best album I’ve ever done. I know people always say that, but I truly mean it. I wrote or co-wrote, or my brother [Scott Wray] wrote or co-wrote every song on the album. It’s kind of a full-circle thing, because he and I started this whole music thing together when we were kids. And to get back around to working with him again, like that, it’s made it a very personal record.

“There’s songs on there that I think people are just really going to love, really personal things,” he continued. “It’s kind of aimed more at the Americana market, which to me, when I heard they wanted me to do an Americana record, my first thought was, ‘OK, well that kind of means no rules, right? A record of what you want to say, as opposed to the days when you had to make a record groomed room totally for radio.”

Collin’s brother has been a member of Miranda’s band for much of her career, so it wasn’t hard to get her to come sing on a song that Scott wrote.

“There’s one song on it called ‘Scars,’ the title song,” Collin said. “My brother wrote it, and Miranda Lambert sings with me on it. I’m so proud of it, and I can’t wait for it to come out. Audium told me that they’re looking at a September release. So hopefully that won’t get moved back anymore and we’ll have new music out.”

Collin just played a live show in Utah, and hints he will perform more shows if people are willing to come.

“August is actually holding so far,” Collin said. “We haven’t lost anything in August, July, we lost a bunch of July. I think originally, we had 11 concerts planned for July and now we’re down to two or three at this point. It just depends on the stage. Some states are far more ready to roll and get things back to normal. Other states are far more hesitant, and so it just kind of depends on the location. I’m confident that our August is going to be pretty much back to normal. I’m sure those concerts are probably going to look a little different.

“I don’t think it’s as different as people think they will though,’ he added. “From what I saw in Utah the other night, I saw some people wearing masks for sure, but you had families out there that brought four and five kids, and the kids were up front by the stage, dancing together and jumping around and having a great time.”
