Dailey & Vincent embraced a new genre of music with their latest Let’s Sing Some Country! album, out now. The record is Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent’s official foray into country music, after years of being one of bluegrass music’s reigning acts. Let’s Sing Some Country! is an 11-track record, with songs by hit songwriters like Steve Earle, Jimbeau Hinson, Ashley Monroe and more, creating another opportunity for Dailey & Vincent to show that their musical prowess cannot be contained in one genre or style.
“We’ve been having a TV show on RFD and Circle Network for the last few years,” Vincent tells Everything Nash, speaking of their The Dailey & Vincent Show. “We’re in Season 5 right now. And we do such a collection of music, from bluegrass, country and gospel. We’ve done all those records, gospel and bluegrass. It was time for us to do a country record, and we had an opportunity to do that with BMG and Broken Bow records. We took that opportunity.”
Renowned producer Paul Worley, whose lengthy list of credits includes Martina McBride, Lady Antebellum, the Dixie Chicks and more, collaborated with Dailey & Vincent to create Let’s Sing Some Country!
“He put a lot of our ideas together,” Vincent says. “And we’ve made some music that we’re so proud to be a part of. We’ve asked a lot of our friends to join us, and this is some of the best work we’ve ever done. We’re so thankful for the opportunity to be able to bring that to all the people, the things that we feel in our heart that we want to sing about, and the gifts that we’ve been given to share with others.”
Let’s Sing Some Country! is exactly what Dailey & Vincent set out to make: a pure, very, very country record, without any deviation from the genre.
“We wanted to sing our style of country,” Dailey explains. “We wanted to sing songs in the style of country that we know and that we’ve lived. And so, a lot of these songs, we’ve actually lived it. Even the song ‘Message From the Farm,’ where it talks about the hogs and the lot and the horses. I’ve lived that. So it’s easy to sing about things that you’ve lived. ‘I’ll Leave My Heart in Tennessee,’ which is the new Tennessee state song now, that tells a story of my life and how I grew up … It’s made it really easy for us.”
In the 14 years since Dailey & Vincent’s eponymous debut album was released on Rounder Records, the two have amassed an astonishing 35 IBMA Awards, plus four Dove Awards and multiple Grammy Awards nominations. They also became Grand Ole Opry members in 2017, receiving the surprise invitation on December 31, 2016. After already achieving more than they ever dreamed, Dailey & Vincent’s biggest goal is to keep creating music that resonates with others.
“Anything we achieve now is just icing on the cake,” Dailey says. “Of course, we have goals and want to do more things, I think one of the things we’d like to do is record more and more music for people. I think it’s for us, for people, and for our legacy.”
