The wait is almost over for new music from Dan + Shay. The duo, made up of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, released their last album, Good Things, in 2021, and are now putting the finishing touches on their new project.

“We’re nearing the end of this yet-to-be-announced album,” Smyers tells Audacy’s Katie & Company. “It’s been a few years in the works. We don’t quite have all the details yet — we’re ironing them out as we go — but it’s definitely our best yet. We’re so proud of it and I’m just so excited to get this out there to the people… We’re going to have new music by the end of the year and I’m fired up for it.”

Their next record will mark  Dan + Shay’s fifth album, but they’ve never taken as much time to work on a project as they have with this one, which is why they can’t wait to share it with the world.

“I can speak for both of us when I say this is the most fun we’ve had making an album,” Mooney says. “Usually, you have two or three months — I don’t want to say to throw it together because we’ve always taken our time — but you just don’t have much time in between touring and running around all over the place. This is the first time we’ve really been able to take our time and try to make a cohesive project and really dive all the way in.”

Dan + Shay’s freshman Where It All Began album came out in 2014. Since then, the duo has won numerous awards, sold-out large arenas on their own headlining tours, and had more than a dozen hit singles, including their current Top 5 hit, “You.”

“We’re in this really cool place in our life right now, where I think we’ve redefined what we see success as,” Mooney explains. “We’ve kind of thought of this project as we’re going to make the album that we want to make and speak from our heart, sing what we know and not try to be anything other than just unapologetically Dan + Shay.”

Earlier this year, Dan + Shay made a brief return to social media, where they have been largely absent in the last few months, to give up an update on their project.

 

“Hi, we’ve been quiet on social media lately but wanted to check in and let y’all know we’re alive,” Dan + Shay explained. “We’ve been spending every single day in the studio working on a new album that we can’t wait for you to hear. The last 10 years have been the most incredible ride thanks to your support, so we feel the responsibility to bring you our best work yet. We’ve written songs, recorded songs, written more songs, recorded more songs, and feel so good about how things are shaping up. As soon as it’s ready, you’ll be the first to know.

“And while we’ve been camped out in the studio, ‘You’ has been climbing the charts thanks to our friends at country radio, so don’t forget to keep requesting it at your local station(s)!” they continued. “Thank y’all so much for being patient with us while we prepare for the next chapter.
