Dan + Shay have returned to social media for the first time since January 10. The duo, made up of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, shared an update with their fans on why they have been absent for the past two months.
“Hi, we’ve been quiet on social media lately but wanted to check in and let y’all know we’re alive,” Dan + Shay explained. “We’ve been spending every single day in the studio working on a new album that we can’t wait for you to hear. The last 10 years have been the most incredible ride thanks to your support, so we feel the responsibility to bring you our best work yet. We’ve written songs, recorded songs, written more songs, recorded more songs, and feel so good about how things are shaping up. As soon as it’s ready, you’ll be the first to know.
“And while we’ve been camped out in the studio, ‘You’ has been climbing the charts thanks to our friends at country radio, so don’t forget to keep requesting it at your local station(s)!” they continued. “Thank y’all so much for being patient with us while we prepare for the next chapter. It truly means the world. Stay tuned for more updates soon!”

Dan + Shay previously hinted that their new music would reflect their decade-long friendship and musical partnership, more than any of their previous projects.
“We’re in the best place personally, as friends, as brothers, more so than we’ve ever been,” Smyers told Audacy’s Rob + Holly. “We’ve just connected on a level that we’ve never been on before. Especially in the writing room, we’re just writing the best songs of our career. That’s what we’re focusing on…. You’re gonna hear that in the music when it comes out. Hopefully this year we’re gonna start rolling out some of that music.”
Part of the reason Dan + Shay haven’t posted anything on any of the social media platforms is because they handle all of it themselves, refusing to allow anyone on their team to post on their behalf.
“Social media has always been super important to us,” Smyers said. “I guess we’ve probably driven a lot of people on our team crazy because we won’t give out the passwords to our accounts. But ever since we started, we wanted to have that one-on-one personal connection with fans, and let them in our worlds. … I think it was important for us to stay connected even outside of being an artist, just on a human level,”
