Dan + Shay Share Story Behind New Single, ‘I Should Probably Go to Bed’

Dan + Shay will release a brand-new song, “I Should Probably Go to Bed,” this Friday, July 31. The song, along with their “10,000 Hours” collaboration with Justin Bieber, is from an upcoming new album.

“We’re so excited about our brand new single, ‘I Should Probably Go To Bed,'” Dan Smyers said ahead of the song’s release. “We wrote part of this song in Los Angeles during Grammy week but finished it at my house, on my piano, kind of by accident. Shay [Mooney] had come over to record vocals on another song that we had written. We took a break, went downstairs, started singing this song, and realized this song needs a big ending.

“So we really went for it,” he added. “Shay delivered one of my favorite vocal performances of all time. We’re so proud that this is our new single.”

Dan + Shay also teased the song on social media, sharing a clip of what looks like an intriguing video, set in the 1970s era.

Dan + Shay planned to be on their headlining tour this year, but were one of the first acts to come off the road, later canceling their tour, due to COVID-19.

“We know that this is of minor importance, compared to what is going on in the world right now,” Dan began in a video he posted on social media in June. “But we care about our fans so much, so we wanted to stay as transparent as possible … The reason that we haven’t yet canceled the dates that are intended to start in July of this summer, is that we have been holding on to the hope that something might shift, something might change, that we might actually be able to make these shows happen.

“But unfortunately as of now, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be possible, out of the respect and safety of our fans, our band, our crew and everyone involved,” he continued. “So what we’ve decided to do is move the entire tour from 2020 to 2021. Now obviously with that comes a lot of logistics, a lot of moving parts, and I would be lying if I said that I had all the answers right at this moment.”
