Dan + Shay Talk ‘Crazy’ Grammy Nomination for ‘Bigger Houses’

Dan + Shay have yet another Grammy nomination to their credit. The duo, made up of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney , are nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance, for their current Top 5 single, “Bigger Houses.” The nomination marks their fifth Grammy nod throughout their career, and if they win, will mark their fourth Grammy trophy.

“It’s crazy man,” Mooney says. “We got nominated for a Grammy on that song, which is absolutely mind-blowing. Whenever Dan and I first recorded the song, and decided to push this as a single, I feel like our radio team was probably like, ‘What are you guys thinking? The song is so slow.’ But we’ve always run with our gut on singles, and really listened to our fans. I know the stories that we were hearing from people about this song in particular, it just  really hit us. We knew that we had something really special here.”

The fact that “Bigger Houses” is nominated for a Grammy is proof to Dan + Shay that their hard work, and dedication to their craft, is paying off, and well.

“It’s been amazing to be a part of something a little bit bigger than us,” Mooney acknowledges. “I feel like this is kind of a movement of gratitude for not only us, but for people. It’s just been amazing. And to have a song like that be nominated for a Grammy is just really special. So, we’re very grateful guys, but I can’t believe that we’re still here after ten years and still able to do this and have people still listen.”

“Bigger Houses” is the title track and second single from Dan + Shay’s latest studio album, released in 2023.

“Some of our records have been more pop- or hip-hop/R&B-infused, but on this record, I wanted to make tracks that we could hop up at any bar anywhere with our live band and play the songs as they were recorded,” Smyers said when the record was released. “Ultimately, this music, this whole album is something that I’ll be able to look back on in a decade or two and be really proud of the way it turned out.”

Bigger Houses was recorded after Smyers and Mooney reunited, following a four-month break. The entire project was created with their loyal fans in mind.

“I hope that they feel, out of everything, that it is genuine, and that every song on this new project came from a very genuine place, somewhere that we’ve been, or that we are,” Mooney explained. “It marks this new era of Dan + Shay, and I think they can feel that genuine nature of what this is.”

It’s likely that Mooney will not be able to attend the Grammys in person, since his wife Hannah is pregnant with the couple’s fourth child. The baby is due on January 20.
