Danielle Bradbery Releases Personal ‘Girls In My Hometown’: ‘It’s Very Bittersweet’ [EXCLUSIVE]

Danielle Bradbery just released a new single, “Girls In My Hometown.” The song is one of the more personal ones she has released, even though the song was actually written by Nicolle Gaylon, Josh Osbourne and Emily Weisband instead.

“I listened to the song, ‘Girls In My Hometown,’ and I’m like, ‘I would have never come up with this, but I’ve felt this way so many times,” Danielle told Everything Nash. “That’s exactly how I felt, listening to the song. I think about my hometown and the people in my hometown all the time, who have stayed there. I go home a lot; I’m a homebody, but my whole family is still in Texas. I have friends that I still talk to from my hometown. It’s just crazy how time flies. One of my best friends got married, and one of them is having a baby.

“It’s just crazy how things are changing,” she continued. “There’s a line in the song that says, ‘When they think 17, do they think of me and wonder if I made it.’ That was the lyric that kind of pulled me on the whole song. I was around 16, 17 when I won The Voice. My whole hometown has been a huge, huge supporter and did watch parties and all of that stuff. So it goes both ways, and it’s very bittersweet.”

Danielle won Season 4 of The Voice when she was only 16 years old. It was a pivotal time in her life, which meant a lot of personal sacrifices as she got a jumpstart on her career — a career that is hotter than ever, especially after the release of “Never Have I Ever,” which garnered more than 14 million global streams so far.

“I didn’t get to finish my high school experience, but I’m living my dream,” the 24-year-old reflected. “It hit every single point, and I feel like a lot of people can relate to that story. It comes a lot different than ‘Never Have I Ever.”

Both “Never Have I Ever” and “Girls In My Hometown” are from an upcoming new album, which will show just how diverse Danielle’s love of music really is, expanding far beyond one style or type.

“I love all different types of genres,” explained the singer. “I think that’s kind of a blessing and a curse because I can’t stick to one sound. I try to make country core in everything, and I try to make everything go together … I have so much love for any type of music, but I’m always gonna have my country core, and I tell everybody that. That’s just who I am.

“But I’m going to get my toes in some different sounds,” she added. “‘Never Have I Ever’ is definitely one of my braver songs now, kind of going more on the R &B side a little bit, but I think it’s going to be overall country. I don’t want to steer away from that too much, but there’s definitely gonna be a little bit of surprise.”
